voltage regulator

Was the voltage regulator built into the alternator on 1973 models (actually 1973 1/2 911s with the CIS engine)?

If so, what do you have to do to hook up a newer engine (1986) with the regulator built into the alternator?

Thx!

This first 911 internal voltage regulator alternator was on the '82 SC.
On the later engine (3.2), all that is needed is the big red wire and the
blue wire which goes to the light.
