Boxster muffler on 911 ?

OK don't freak out, I'm guessing the 'Boxster' word is almost as bad as the 'Cayenne' word on the 911 list.
Has anyone put a Boxster muffler on a 911? I like the single center exhaust, it must be a hold-over from the awesome 'Sebring' exhausts on the 4-cam 356s & Spyders (see photo). I'll be changing my rear bumper / valance anyway (I'm changing to the IROC style) and thought that it would be a unique change.
Will the 'wimpy' 2.7 muffler be free flowing enough for a 3.2 ? I know the exhaust will need some modifications, (the Cat is coming off), so maybe a straight shot from each side into the outboard duel inlets?

356 Sebring Muffler - classic center exhaust

Thanks

Mark, you woouldn't want to mes with a Boxster muffler. What you could do though, is modify a banana muffler (stock or anyother) by cutting it open and putting a center outlet on it. Then plugginf the side exit. It's more involved than I just stated, but it is an option.

The "Boxer" as in Ferrari Boxer 512bb has mufflers that probably don't fit well.

The "Boxster" muffler sounds like more kluge than it is worth. You can spend all that eoffrt modifying an old stock muffler to have a center exhaust as Makaio said.

I've seen posts of guys adding a extra (duel) side outlet, or swapping ends, but since I'm clueless as to the interior design/layout of the stock muffler, I did not think you could stick one in the center, without some issues.
Any cutaway diagrams, or real life cutaways of the stock muffler available? Or has anyone done this mod? I know changing the exhaust path will effect the volume, (I'm not too worried if it is louder), but I'd hate to end up with a weird sounding exhaust tone.
Thanks for the info and advise.

An oval center outlet would be no different than the dual out sport muffler, home made style. Might have a little different sound, I'd like to see you do it so I could hear it. The actual Boxster muffler is a complicated rascal and pretty pricey to be cutting on.

Mark, if you want a stock 1-in 1 out to mess around with and cut on, I have one I'll trade you for a lunch at the Eel River Brewery.

Cool

Unimog,
If you need a diagram of the insides of the stock bananna muffler, check the thread "cheap sport mufflers" or something like that. There is a diagram on there of how to modify a stock muffler and make it into a sport muffler.

Good luck,
neat project

I've modified a couple of Boxster mufflers and 911 mufflers. If you look at the '03 Boxster muffler the exit pipes are flush with the muffler shell. You can interchange the tips, either the oval or twin pipe look. The easiest and least expensive would be to locate 2 exit pipes in the center of the banana muffler. Have them protrude maybe an inch or so. Buy the Boxster tip you like and weld on a tab to bolt it on. The interchangeable tips are new for '03.
