This would have to be the best air cooled porsche powered car of all time !
How about a 3.6 bolted into one of these Ultima GTR car bodies ..
I just dont think it gets any nicer looking and performance ... Porsche motor with a G50 trans would be the ticket . Any comments before I mail out a check ? .. LOL - Joe - web site Ultima build site .. |

Too big to fail

It looks OK, but the windshield header and A pillar are way too tall in relation to the rest of the car. They should stretch the wheelbase so they could lower the overall profile.

It would be way underpowered, I'd rather have a GM LS6 engine in there.

For the price and look of the Ultima you'd need AT LEAST a twin turbo Porsche engine.
Problem is (to me) the sound. The ultima screams "high pitched 12 cylinder". No P-6 banger will do.

There was an Ultima at a shop I use every now and then, a few years back, along with some of the guys from the company. They were getting it ready for a magazine test.
It looked pretty nice in person, all around. Nice detailing, definately not like a "kit car" at all. The one I saw looked like it had an G50 for a transaxle, and it had some kind of big-block America V8 in it. Sounded awesome! |

I didn't us the term "kit car" perjoritively, one of my neighbors has a very nice one that is an absolute blast on a nice police free day.

The Ultima GT is definatley sweet, but I sould rather have one of these:
www.kraftwerkz.net Much better than a kit Cobra IMHO. |

I drove a Cobra replica from a company in South America for two days once. It had a real 427 side oiler and that sucker would break the tires lose at 65 mph very easy. It was scary fast. They can be nice.

Horror Ultima pic from last years Targa Tasmania (see Targa Tasmania Tarmac Rally - Story/Pics (longish) for my story from same event).
The throttle cable jammed wide open then bango. Real shame as the car was a gem and the owner is a very nice guy.

I spoke to them two years ago and the price was around $95k without engine/trans (but otherwise complete and assembled).

The price I was quoted was fully assembled and painted, prepped for engine of choice. Is that $30k the same thing or an unassembled kit?

I just checked, the price for fully assembled minus engine/trans is $89,000 plus tax and delivery.
I saw something on the untima website I hadn't seen before, the can am version. I like.
