fenderwell color

I am restoring a 73.5 T and doing a change in color (original Sepia Brown, horrendous black overspray) to something like a Polo Red. I have been removing all the undercoating (to expose the rust in floorpan and will use Por 15 (black) to coat the pan. I decided to remove all the undercoating from the fenderwells to the engine compartment and give it the same treatment. My question is what is the original color in every 911s (early) fenderwell? Is it body color or black. Since the car had the repaint I can't tell for sure. It looks like the front fenderwells and engine compartment might be Sepia Brown but the rear wells look black. Any body have any ideas? After spending so much time removing the undercoating I really want to start getting some paint on the car and working on the engine.

Pre 72 cars had black boots, engine bays and wheel wells. Starting sometime in 72 there was some body color over spray in these areas. by the end of 73 most cars have body color.

My '73 fender wells are the same color as the original car color. A PO repainted it a different color and now I have a "two tone car". Red exteroir and yellow wheel wells .

Up to about a year ago, I thought the fender wells were black but then I (foolishly ) cleaned them to discover the original color.
