Emissions testing? Car temperature

I have to get the emissions tested this weekend on the 86, should the car be nice and warm when I get it tested?

Send a message via AIM to vash
search for failed california smog test.

i believe the advice was to get the car hot.
i never show up without brand new clean oil in the car and a new air filter.

Bill,
I agree with unfixed; fresh oil, clean filter.
Additionally, I plan a highway trip and run the fuel almost out. Then, just prior to the test, fill with fresh (cold) fuel.
If you are woried about it passing, a set of plugs and a quick tune check might be in order.

In Colorado, it's a real pain if it doesn't pass the first time. Some are trying to get their track cars through the test.

Best,
Grady

It passed jsut fine in December 2001, so I have no real reason to think it won't pass this time. I am due for an oil change and valve adjustment at Poudre Sports car, but I was hoping I could get it passed this weekend and get teh work done in February, after I know the outcome of tax season...

What does happen if you fail. I know what was like in VA, but not here.

Bil,

I really didn’t answer your question.
Yes the engine should be warm, not fiery hot, not stone cold. I would do the highway driving the day before, let sit overnight, warm up, get fresh fuel, do a few full throttle exhibitions (to clean out the start-up) and then show up at the test facility. You can find the Colorado emissions information at:
http://www.aircarecolorado.com/
You shouldn’t have any problems at all. I don’t think the Ft. Collins area is as intense as the Denver metro area – yet. Let me know how it works out.

Best,
Grady

Thanks Grady, I appreciate it.

I will let you know how it goes. I actually will have a 50 mile drive home tonight, will get new gas first thing inthe morning, and then go get it checked.
