just a thought...

I hate to deal with, or recommend, ebay cars and dealers with ebays cars. But, this one sounds nice. click here

If you must have one of those big bumper cars without a roof on it.

Shawn.

edit: what is that thing to the left of the engine?

onewhippedpuppy 01-23-2004 07:43 PM

What do you mean about the targa comment, are you going to convert it if you get a targa? If so, don't bother, just pay the money and get a real cab, why risk a hack job? I'd say get a targa, best of both worlds, but since you want a cab.

It's a little higher than your range, but looks nice, maybe if the auction doesn't go over well he'll re-think his price? It's in So. Cal, lots of Pelicans there.

It's amazing how you come up with these derelict projects! From a Porschev to this?
Either you have to save to get a worth while car, or stop looking at these insane projects. There are plenty of good cars out there--why do you avoid them?

That's looking maybe 20 minutes, the good ones are out there.

FenderGuy 01-23-2004 08:00 PM

Matt and Shawn thanks for the post I have seen those 2 cars on ebay, but ebay has annoyed me for the past experiences i have on that. I think its good for some items, but the car market in Ebay is crazy...I really like this asinine Beethoven, I like how he observes and comments with a obtuse mind. Seems others have come up with these derelict projects, I am just here to ask for advice on them. I am really avoiding the good cars? I learned from the porschchev and this project would have been a fun to do if I had the space, sorry Beethoven if my life isn’t as peachy as yours

Yeah, so I'm bored.

FenderGuy 01-23-2004 08:02 PM

Matt must we get started on the high milage cars? lol

onewhippedpuppy 01-23-2004 08:02 PM

Don't take things so personally Fender, would you rather us blow smoke up your a$s?

onewhippedpuppy 01-23-2004 08:04 PM

Hey, miles are relative to the work done on the car, especially on a Porsche. I'll take a high miles car with rebuilt this and that in good shape over a low miles ticking bomb any day.

47silver 01-24-2004 06:54 PM

man,,,i dont think i would tackle that project even for free...i have experience in the project that was over-whelming (an old mahogany chris-craft inboard cleveland ford 6 cylinder with a bronze prop...looked good on paper but............earth would dry up before i would have completed that project i think that cars would be outlawed by the time you would complete this car (imho).
gary

FenderGuy 01-24-2004 07:11 PM

I think people would take this project for free, i would and sell the parts. lets not kid ourselves in saying you wouldnt take this project for free

47silver 01-24-2004 07:14 PM

free

you are right, i guess i lost my head, i was thinking that i would attempt to put it together and did not even think about selling the parts, just was thinking about all of the work involved and it made me go stupid.

gary

onewhippedpuppy 01-24-2004 07:16 PM

I'd take it for parts, and only parts. Sad thing is, I couldn't even get a good engine out of it. I take it you didn't like any of the links? Trust me, a 20 year old car will be project enough, even if you get a good one.

FenderGuy 01-24-2004 07:27 PM

Matt didnt say i didnt i looked into some of them but i guess i am still looking .

fig911 01-24-2004 07:46 PM

A 911 cab that floats!!!!!!

That has got to be worth $4500:D  :D :D

You don't see those every day:eek:

targa80 01-24-2004 08:47 PM

I wouldn't take that car on for a project. It has to many mssing parts. Besides if you have never had any experience with taking one of these cars apart then how easy will it be to put back together. I took my car completely apart and have all the baggies labeled where the parts go. I also took a lot of digital pictures as I started dismanteling. I know there will still be times when I will be scratching my head and wondering where ta heck does this go.

vash 01-26-2004 02:06 PM

i must admit, fender, i love your enthusiasm! but after just working on getting an external oil cooler into my 75, i couldnt even imagine doing everything else! every tiny detail, relay, switch, the crazy wiring... i once emailed targa80 and asked him about his parts filing system just because of the magnitude of his project. i would be blown away. believe me, any 911 you get will probably have lots of work to do on it enough. keep looking. just my opinion.

Wrecked944 01-26-2004 02:31 PM

I'm no expert but it seems to me that 911 prices have been falling unusually fast during the past year. So being picky and having patience may pay off $$$ in the end.

widebody911 01-26-2004 03:00 PM

$4500 and it comes with a 914 engine?

Sounds more like "Pay me $4500 and I'll let you clean out my garage".

I wouldn't take on a project like this if it was free, and even I have the garage, tools, and most of the skills to put it together.

I imagine the good bits have already been ebay'd off, and he's trying to get some sucker to sweep up the crumbs.
