I, for one, would like to hear more about BIll's thoughts on cam grinds and exhaust tuning...

I was very interested in a clean exhaust because of the new E-cam up-grade. The E has some overlap. It won't have the lope lope exhaust sound as something that won't idle below 1,200rpm has.. but it'll be better than smog cams. To my understanding one exhaust pop drags the pop after it creating more velocity. This is where tuned headers come in. You can tune for a given rpm efficency. SSI is simple. I have no idea about exhaust flow thru stock 3.2 pipes. I expect E-cams and SSI to sound beautifull

My 3.0 has SSIs with Dansk 2 in, 1 out SS muffler and 20/21 cams. You can definitely hear the difference with the cams...engine lopes a bit at idle, but is very smooth and drivable. Before with my stock 2.7, it seemed that every Ford Focus that pulled up beside me wanted to test me. It must sound pretty bad-assed now, because it is still pretty quiet and the 2.7 decal is still there, but noone, not even the obviously modified ricers seem to want any of it. I think it sounds great..but it does pop considerably during foot-off-the-gas decell. I think that is normal.

How do the E cams compare the 20/21, 964, and the Elgin upgrade?

Ron is correct, it's apples to oranges. E cams are MFI cams, so you can forget about them on an SC. (Unless you change to carbs, which has not been mentioned).
As a data point, I have Elgin SC330 grind cams w/ SSIs on my '82 SC and it runs and sounds sweet, pulls nicely to 6000+rpm. I just don't think that it is making much more than stock output, a dyno run would tell for sure though. ![]()

Yeah. Back it up with real dyno results buddy! None of this seat-of-the-pants Mickey Mouse butt dyno BS......................
![]() ![]() Mark and others, With the SSI upgrade on an SC, does one need to adjust the A/F mixture to take advantage of the new setup? In other words, would the car run a little leaner with the added breathing ability? A little follow up............... Quote:

KTL:
If you believe Steve Wong.....yes. He has about 4-5 chip progams for ( as an example...3.2's), that correlate better at the top end depending upon the intake and exhaust modifications you might run. For example, he has a different amount of WOT enrichment profile for cars that are stock. vs, cars with premufflers, vs cars with SSI's ( that in this grouping, would require the most hi-end enrichment). Steve could chime in now and elaborate...but I think the premise is correct. Same with barn-flapper door intake vs. MAF, etc. ----Wil Ferch

Recently installed SSI's and a Dansk 1/2 muffler on my 3.2 with negligable gain. PO gave me them when I bought the car and the stock muffler was beat so I replaced them with mods rather than buy a new muffler. My heating system was already set up for the SSi's. The engine does however rev smoother to redline and "seems" to have a flatter torque curve but I speculate it might be wishful thinking
