IMO, SSI increases mid range torque. The engine is noted by SSI users to "run smoother".

Rather than depend on gut feel.
I took the time to measure the difference with the SSI's using a GtechPro. I took several runs before and after the install. There was about a 0.4 -0.5 second difference in the 0-60 times. The 1/4 mile time obviously improved. I tend to think the muffler change helps sound and little more. The HP increase comes from the balancing of both sides of the exhaust and the reduced restriction in the path. I'm not running any more tests since my CV joint failed less than a week after the clutch dropping excercise. I can't prove that the series of 0-60 runs were the cause but it was a strange coincidence. I don't put much credibility in my ability to distinguish actual improvement in performance from a louder exhaust sound when I depend on "feel". That's why I chose to run the tests.
One other thing, my car's mixture was adjusted when the SSI's were added. I'm running very rich right now. 79SC /SSIs with Dual out Dansk |

Has anyone run early ('74 to earlier) heat exchangers then run SSIs on the same 3.0? I'm curious to know if there's a noticeable difference between the two.
Thanks ![]()

You wear skirts too? Congrats on the SSI thing. I'd agree that the power increase is not the best reason. Having an instant dry sauna is groovy at times. But mostly I appreciate the smoothness. Those things are tuned in a way that your stock units were not. Your engine likes the tuned exhaust, and I can feel the love from the drivers' seat, regardless of whether there is a power increase or not.

I have to agree with the Triad comments. Dave (Triad) is a personal friend, but that's not driving my comments. In truth, the Triad exhaust absolutely crushes the competition for both performance and sound. And weight, probably.

Anxious to hear the results - I am hoping to do the same thing this Winter.

Rookie question
Will a SSI/Dansk coversion on my 78 911SC result in non-compliance for cali smog?

like i said before, if it comes down to it. we can cobble together the best of our factory exhaust and just share it during smog time

The Triad is a quality piece that sounds like no other. I always get positive comments at the track about the sound. But it is loud in the car!
Really loud. I like it! It weighs the same as the Dansk that I took off the car. Jeff

Maark,
You never did list your dyno results. Did you ever have them done? You never came out to Lubbock while you were here. I am installing 73 heat exchangers on my car, as I can't afford SSI's right now. Hope it will help. 3.0 is rather wimpy compared to my 2.2 with headers.

Hey Chris,
No Dr needed ![]() I did run another dyno on Duck and the results are positive but uncovered a problem that may skew the results. The SSI's improved the peak HP by just under 10 HP. The torque was essentially the same as before. The problem uncovered was that the A/F ratio was going off the chart rich in the mid rev range. The best we can figure is the WUR is bad causing the rich condition. I'm traveling right now, but will try to scan and post the comparison this weekend. Even at 10 HP, the SSI's are prolly the cheapest improvement you can do to an SC. M |
