Cups are much heavier than Fuchs, so they add to unsprung weight. I don't know for sure, but people on this BBS reported that their cars were slower off the line with the larger, cast alloy wheels than with Fuchs.

I'd keep them, personally but I'd like the cash, too. As others have said, if you decide to sell them, don't let them go too cheap!

I've got four 7x 16 originaly from a 944 turbo, mint condition, they are kind of nice just to have around. You might want to have two set's of wheels ready for action. If you have the space, it couldn't hurt to wait one year then decide.

Then again I have way too much stuff around here...

Keep them... they are so "correct" for the car, sooner or later you'll miss them. When have you last seen a WHEEL design/pattern that lasts this long in looks/style/popularity? (I know, there are minilites, mesh-style bbs, and some others, but these really are timeless)

Are fuchs from an "S" lighter or any different in construction than optional fuchs for an "E" or "T"?

If they're off of a 951 the fronts are 7's and the rears are 8's. The 8's have a different offset (less IIRC) than 911 8's, so they can be used to mount a larger tire on the front of a 911 with less chance of contacting the fender; and the 951 8's will allow a larger caliper if one wanted to upgrade the 911 front brakes. Very desirable at one time, I don't know if they still bring a premium price (more than 911 offset 8's) or not.

Just thought you'd like to know.

To answer the original question - I'd make sure I always had a set of Fuchs around to put back on the car (IMHO Fuchs ARE the 911 wheel).

If you plan on keeping your car for a long time, I would vote to keep them. I bet that at some point, you will want to go back to original. They are just so right for the car.

And if you plan on selling your car, I would also probably vote to keep them. Most people prefer the Fuchs, and buyers would probably discount a car that did not have them. I know I would.

So there you have it. Unless you absolutely need the money to offset the price of the replacement wheels, I would keep the Fuchs.

hmm, you could always compromise. sell 2 of the cups and 2 of the fuchs! best of both worlds.

The 951 Fuchs 8 actually has more positive offset than the 911 Fuchs 8

951 = +23.3mm
911 = +10.6mm

The 951 8 allows more brake clearance is the countersunk lug holes which translates into a deeper wheel hub.

They're still desirable and still bring a premium price. Kinda understandable since this 951 Fuchs 8 was only used for the 1986 944 Turbo. Some of that car's production used the same wheel sizes and offsets as the Fuchs, but used the 16 in. phone dials instead of the Fuchs. I guess that makes the Fuchs (and the phone dials) a little more rare when the car could be had with either type of wheel?

unless you're really strapped for cash I'd keep them. You can always sell them later if you must. I think you'll kick yourself for selling them in a few years.

nah not really strapped for cash. It's just easier to get permission for more toys when I say, "but honey I got $xxx for the old ones what's the bug deal?"

Well after much consideration and reading through the points everyone has made I think I will store them for a year and see where I'm at then. No rush so no problem. Worse case is if I ever do need cash they seem to be like owning a gold nugget.
