Can I Delete This?
I will soon be smogging my car for the last time. After which I am going to install some SSIs & delete as much smog crap as I can till I can ditch the CIS. I am also installing a carpet kit & wonder if after the smog test if I'll be able to get rid of the box (not sure the name of it) under the passenger seat. My motor is the stock 80 3 liter. Here is a pic.

What year is your car? I was told that in a 1980 it's not as intergrated.

That's the Lambada(sp) brain, it runs the frequency valve for the '80-'83 CIS. I'm not sure exactly what the frequency valve does w/ out it but I know it's not good (runs like crap).
Once you go to carbs you can ditch it of course. And no, Steve's chip wont do anything for that.

That is the control box for the Lamda system.
On CIS-Lamda cars, fuel mixture is adjusted by controlling the duty cycle of the frequency valve. The Freq valve is essentially an EFI injector, on a fuel line going to the bottom chamber of the fuel distributor. It takes a rich/lean signal from the O2 sensor and adjusts the duty cycle up and down to compensate. With no signal from the O2 sensor, the freq valve defaults to a slightly rich condition, but the freq valve is still operating. Without the control box (or the power relay next to it) it will not run, and you car will run really badly, if at all. Tom |

In my car that's where the amplifier sits. Perhaps you could find out how a 78 controls its Lambada frequencies....

If you attached an e-ram and a cool-collar to the box you can get 25% more horsepower and run 10 degrees cooler

I've been messing with my interior over the past month and I was wondering the same thing about that box. Now I know. Paul, thanks for asking.
