Cat Deterrent

Does anyone know of a good cat deterrent, (apart from a shot gun).

I dont have a garage, just a carport and the neighboughood cats have been jumping up and scratching my cars.

Is there any spray available or handy hints for repelling my feline friends.

i dont have this problem, but for some reason... I recalled reading this thread. You might find some hints in here...

I have a 115lb Akita.

Haven't seen a cat around in years.

There are sprays -- get them from a pet store. But first buy a big bos of Cayenne (red_ pepper powder and sprinkle that aorund. Or use a cover.

You can call animal control, complain and ask them to live trap the cats (you might say your children's sand box is being contaminated and it is a health issue -- that will get more attentin than my Porsche is getting dirty...).

Do NOT kill, shoot at or molest the cats -- you can serve prison time in most states. A few years ago they discovered that child molestors usually start out by molesting animals, and they are very sensitive to animal abuse nowadays.

Damn! I had no idea... I'm gonna have to stop molesting cats I guess. They seemed to enjoy it, I think?

I've seen aftermarket mats advertised...kind of like an electric fence. KItty steps on mat, gets a mild electric shock, kitty quickly learns not to do it again. Maybe a search on the web would find you one of these close to home? What current do you use down under? USA 110 may not work...

Even cats don't like Cayennes?:p How about "accidentally" spilling some antifreeze somewhere, maybe in a nice bowl? :D

Get a cheap metal trap and use catfood, animal control was always happy to get the animals when I've already done the hard work.

And yet, some would judge.

Do a little forensic work. I found the neighbour cats would always jump up on the front bumper, then onto the hood, then up the windshield to the roof. By placing cardboard around the bumper, it blocked their path, completely curing the problem. Even though they are perfectly capable of jumping up from the rear, they don't seem to know it. Either that or they are too lazy.

Ha Ha...when cats see Rico they think of "Silence of the lambs"!

This is my only deterrent so far, my vicious poodle Betsy. The neighbourhood cats don’t seem to take much notice of her. Maybe I should have invested in something a little bigger.

I might try the pepper powder and the mothballs and see if that does the trick.

Fishcop 02-01-2004 01:50 AM

Try some ammonia poured in to a few bowls nearby... most animals hate the smell.

eintz911's 02-01-2004 04:50 AM

I like cats!.......they taste like chicken.

84toy 02-01-2004 05:45 AM

I don't have that problem anymore. After I took care of the last cat, the others seem to stay away. Go figure.....

I don't know about cats, but since urine is a bunch of ammonia, dogs smell what isn't theirs and think its the competition. If your house breaking a dog and you clean it up with ammonia the dog will keep going back to the spot. If you use bleach or vinegar they're not as likely to.
