oh well, seems like Saturdays are really slow nights...
I'll be out of town next week, so everyone sharpen your skills, and get the networking portion as worked out as you can, cause I'll be back and looking for blood!!

You don't rationalize things to other people, you rationalize them to yourself.

Tell her that you are buying the spiffy force feedback wheel: "because I want it".

I got the force feedback wheel, and then realized I needed a new PC to use USB. How's that for a chun of cash spent to use a $20 game??? My wife didn't complain, either.

Awesome, buy a steering wheel to play a game, buy a new PC to be able to use the steering wheel. I'll have to tell the fella's in the office today.

NFS is a arcade-like game, GTR is much closer to a pure simulation. Much more difficult, no way to be fast with the keyboard.

Did you download the updated Nurburgring/Nordschleife?

There is a newer version, for the European Touring car mod for F1 Challenge, still bumpy, but much smoother than the old beta conversion. You can run it in GTR2002, you just need to remove the "SearchPaths" section of the Nordschleife.scn.**

The only real problem is the pits don't work, so you can't do a long race. You can do a 5 lap sprint with one set of tires/tank of gas though. It is still a conversion of the GPL track, so the layout is the old F1 circuit. I've managed to get a 993 GT2 around it in 7:28 Big fun.

Download it here:
http://hsw.hu/etcc03tracks/etcc.htm

Tom

**Open the "Nordschleife.scn" file in notepad, at the top of the file you will see a few lines that say "SearchPath=" Just delete these 3 lines, and save the file. If you have problems, PM or mail me, I'll try and help.

I have F1 2002 but haven't played it much because my laptop is way too slow to run it. That game seems to need way more of a CPU bandwidth than my 1 GHz P3 can provide.

nope, it'll run on a celeron 450 with 512 Mb of ram, but you need a good video card. It does run much better on my newest machine which is a 2.4 with 512 Mb RAM and an even better video card.

That is surprising, the minimum specs are (fishing out the box) P2-400, and recommended is P3-500, so you should have enough processing power. Laptops don't always have the best video adapters, so I bet if you turned down some of the video settings (details, shadows, etc), it would run better.

With the worst graphics settings, it was extremely laggy and choppy. Since I tried, my laptop died and my new one only has half the video memory. (NFS:PU only runs in 640x480 on it.)

I'm hoping to get a new laptop soon, and I'll definitely make sure it has better video capabilities.

Just did it, made the edits and it ran fine. Thanks Tom. I did a quick slow lap and was blown away with the scenery. The track seems better and it all looks and feels very real.
Much more like the vid clips I have downloaded. A two thumbs up, must have track.

Frank Stippler better watch out for me now. I would still be slow and in his way. LOL

got the girls

I may be slow but check out my pit girls. I need to go do a lap then take 2 or three back to my trailer. That leaves a few leftovers for you guys.

Porsche withdrawl syndrome is in full force here.

Emcon, is the searchpath mod to the scn file the same for any/all of the tracks in the above link? There are some cool tracks there.

I would think so. It's worth a try, all it can do is not work. It won't hurt anything, the game just won't load properly.

It may be easier to just download the track for F12002, I think most of those are listed here:

Hey Tom. Just got back from a evening out with the GF. I would love to do some GTR sometime. I need to practice a lot first though. My guess is that with 5 laps of the ring, you might lap me. I am running a GT3 with no aids except ABS on low and am probably 2 min behind your smokin gt2...
