John, PM me and tell me what brand router you have and what you are trying to do.

jhelgesen 02-06-2004 05:41 PM

I'm not having trouble running, but has anyone with issues tried using the "compatability modes" under program properties if needed?

Glasgow 911SC 02-06-2004 05:58 PM

Excellent! I'm in!

The different version warning is because I didn't have the latest version of the game. I clicked on search for internet games and a window appeared saying there is updates available to download.

Did that and now I've connected to John's game!

jhelgesen 02-06-2004 06:00 PM

Way cool!

Any one else, I'm on 66.26.20.105.

GrindingGears 02-06-2004 06:42 PM

Chris, I got that same message box, but when I clicked 'update' the game crashed. How did you do it?

Note:
I'm thinking about hosting a game with no 3.5 patch, just straight from the box. Jus tto see if it'll work. Anyone interested?

Glasgow 911SC 02-06-2004 06:45 PM

the game dissappeared and started to download the neccessary files. i have the patch too. am playing against 3 others right now.

ECSjr 02-06-2004 07:15 PM

Thanks for hosting erix... was great.

the last round never loaded, and i should get going anyway.

now i have to practice!

jhelgesen 02-06-2004 07:27 PM

That was fun guys, we'll do it some more. Any one wants more info, I can share what I did to get through my router to host.

Night guys!

Leland Pate 02-06-2004 08:03 PM

Is anyone still hosting???
If any of you late-racers want, I've serving at 69.144.218.65

surflvr911sc 02-06-2004 08:35 PM

At least I was winning! :p

Trying again!

GrindingGears 02-06-2004 08:39 PM

Par911 02-06-2004 10:15 PM

I had some fun racing with Lee on his server tonight, we got 4 or 5 people, 5 axis was there. Too bad Lee started crushing me at the end after he figured out how to tweak the handling with the toe in. Until next time fellas!

surflvr911sc 02-06-2004 10:46 PM

Had a blast w/ Tom tonight, Philip & Steve were there too. Thanks guys!

Tom is a mad man! Good luck if you find yourself up againt him.

5axis 02-07-2004 12:31 AM

This is going to be very cool. A bit more realistic than NFS.

Glasgow 911SC 02-07-2004 05:27 AM

Ryan,
So you managed to race too. Was starting to think we'd never get on! Maybe race you later..

masraum 02-07-2004 08:13 AM

Ryan, Awesome, glad you were finally able to get into a game!!

It sucks that I missed all of the fun, but I can't play every night. Maybe tonight if you guys are still up for it. It'll be cool to play a full grid.

GrindingGears 02-07-2004 08:16 AM

Last night was great. Tom "slappy" lapped me twice on a 8 lap marathon of monte carlo, I wouldnt be surprised if he didnt hit the walls once. I'm looking forward to some more gaimng tonight.

Glasgow 911SC 02-07-2004 08:37 AM

I'm up for it! How can crash damage be activated? It's weird how you can drive through each other.

The host can turn it on, but trust me, unless there are only a few cars, and everyone is on a really fast connection, it is better without it. Lag induced collisions just cause problems.

Last night was fun, once we got past the excruciating load times. I don't know it is was a network traffic problem, or someone had a really slow computer, but 5 minutes loading a race that will only last 3 minutes sucks. Later when there was only 3 of us, it was really fast, and I hosted 4 guys earlier in the week with no trouble.

I am amazed how fast some people were going driving with the keyboard. Without my whee/pedals I suck.

Tom

Glasgow 911SC 02-07-2004 09:17 AM

Maybe I should invest in a wheel/peal combo. For those playing tonight, what time? Think I went to bed at about 5ish this morning!

masraum 02-07-2004 09:29 AM

You can get really fast with a keyboard, it's all I used for the first 6 months that I had the game, but when I got the wheel and pedals it made a huge difference. The only thing that is actually BETTER with the keyboard is when you have to do 360's in the factory driver mode. Since you can go full lock to lock instantly it is much easier to do than with a wheel.

if you can afford the $100 for a decent logitech (I suppose Microsoft is OK too) force feedback wheel do it. The game is even more fun.

I have the Logitech FF wheel, it is the $60-70 range now.

Microsoft got out of the game controller business, so you may be able to find a deal on a closeout.

Tom

surflvr911sc 02-07-2004 09:45 AM

I got the Logitech Momo FFB wheel, all I need now is a Recaro office seat.:)

masraum 02-07-2004 09:47 AM

Logitech input devices kick butt, and if you are monetarily comfortable I think you can still get the Momo wheel and pedals kit that has a leather covered Momo designed wheel, and I think metal pedals.

Either way, mine works great. Logitech Formula Force GP. It's pretty cool, you can feel texture in the road, you can feel self centering due to the alignment, you can feel the steering get light when you start to understeer, when you start sustaining damage the steering gets less precise, sometimes it start to vibrate, etc....

Glasgow 911SC 02-07-2004 09:50 AM

i found one. Seems like a good price.

Steering Wheel and Pedal Set

Glasgow 911SC 02-07-2004 09:59 AM

I'm off for some practice now.

Spend the extra £10 and get the force feedback version:

If you need to rationalize it, just say what I say:

"I have spent more on dumber stuff."

My girlfriend says that's an admittance of stupidity, so I can't get away with that one. :)

Last night was great. Hopefully I can get on tonight too.

masraum 02-07-2004 03:59 PM

Anyone up for some racing?

masraum 02-07-2004 04:03 PM

If not I may just run the 'Ring in a '67 Lotus in GPL, maybe Laguna Seca, or even Le Mans

Glasgow 911SC 02-07-2004 04:23 PM

I'm ready to give it a go.

kjb 02-07-2004 04:27 PM

I could be convinced for some quick racing before I have to start cooking.
