Shock / Heater box / Control arm clearance issues!
I have a 71 T with 3.0 SC motor and took on the project last weekend of putting on later model aluminum control arms instead of my steel ones. I thought this would be a bolt in swap -- but I am having some clearance issues. They are:
1. Have to remove shock dust cover to get bilsteins to clear shock tower (angle to arm has changed) 2. Am concerned that SSI's will not clear point where shocks attach to trailing arm. I am really perplexed by the first issue because I did not thikn Porche changed the clearance around shcock tower mounts from 73-74. I would love to know from anyone who has put aluminum control arms onto an early car if these clearance issues surfaced. Will the SSIs work with early cars and aluminum control arms? I have not put the motor back in but it looks like it will be tight! Thanks!!

Use the search feature here. There are several threads on this topic as many have done this before. Sorry for the short answer as the real answer is lengthier.

I know for a fact that the combo of 1985 Wide-Body ( Turbo Look) with stock 3.2, along with SSI's ...is a bad interference. The altered Turbo style banana arms ( compared to NA car) , with their altered pivot points...shove the shock body into the flange of the SSI's ( SSI's not used on "Real" turbos...)
Can't imagine why you're having this trouble, though ?? ---Wil Ferch
