Good head...
...ers.
After looking for a pair of used SSIs to no avail, I have come across these (image attached), I do not need the heat as I live in Florida. I hope I do not get flamed for this but I must be honest and say these are from another vendor. Has anyone used them or have any any opinions? My car is MFI, could these headers be used on my car? ![]() |

They look like Triads. The MFI needs some from of heat for its thermostat. The heat needs to come either from the headers or from an electric resistance device. Since the Triads have no chimney for heat you may want to look into resistive heating.

How hard would it be to just make a sheet metal chimmey on the pipe that will have to run from the collector to the muffler?

Surely you could just weld a small 'vent' onto the headers to replace the heat source from the old headers?

Which is easier to implement? Welding a chimney and ductwork or running some wire and a haidryer/lightbulb etc.?

Simply replace the thermostat with a screw. If it is cold enough to require a cold start enrichment (like Daytona last week), then adjust the screw – start – and then put the screw back to the off position. You can do much fancier and sophisticated solutions but this one will work. No heat or wiring required.
Best, Grady

Is the heat exchangers connection to the MFI thermostat purely for cold start purposes?

And proper mixture for normal running. The MFI will cause the oil to be diluted w/ gas if it is constantly running over rich

Sorry about all the questions, just trying to understand the system...
Some time ago I had a starting problem and the mechanic told me the 'thermal time switch' was bad and to resolve the problem he capped the system. Would this be the same system/unit that the heat exchangers connect to? |

Nigel,
The thermo-time switch is not connected to the exhaust in any way, there is a switch that is connected to the left side chain cover and it's used in the ignition circuit to provide fuel for cold starting. There are alot of threads here about it as my explanation is pretty weak.
