IT'S ALIVE !!.... the 3.6 is running again

Just wanted to let you guys know that my 3.6 rebuild finally came to an end today. I stuffed the motor back into the car this afternoon with the help of a fellow Porsche nut.

After some cranking oil pressure came up to 'bout 4 bar. Good enough. When I hooked up the spark and but the DME relay back in it took another 10 seconds for the fuel to build pressure and then the engine stumbled to live. What a sweat sound after looking at bits and pieces for the last 7 weeks. I took it right up to 3000RPM for a couple of minutes before I started thinking about my neighbors. Oh well. Tomorrow is another day.

The plan for next week is to do some driving pulling up to 5k hard to help seat the rings after the engine is warmed up. After 50 miles the non-detergent dino oil has to go and some real dyno oil will take me through the first 10.000 miles if nothing goes wrong. I am still nervous as to whether everything gets oiled well. Maybe I should pull the valve covers and take a peek, hm. I wonder how long the engine would run if something is blocked or I messed up somewhere......

Ingo

Yep.

MilkeZ came over to help when it was time to fire it up. This morning there is all this white gue all over my driveway. POLISHING COMPOUND

The fault code 1-1-5 is for the idle position sensor. It went away when I started it up again. I belive it got triggered because I never let it idle so the DME never saw the idle micro switch engaged.

The other fellow that gave me a hand has not driven his 930 in 10 years. Now that is tough. But right now Ron has started to work on it again.

Congratulations Ingo. Time to reap the rewards of your labor. Once it's dialed in and you've restored your confidence in the motor, the payoff will be well worth it!

Keep us posted.

Thanks for all the encouraging words folks. Today I have completed about 60 miles after pissing off the neighbors by keeping the engine at 3000 RPM for the first ten minutes. I was literally bracing for the cops to show up. Everyone who has heard my excuse for an exhaust will know what I am talking about.

The engine stayed bone-dry. So far so good. No major screw ups - confidence is starting to go up. I am at the point where I might even consider investing in some gas again and fill her up

Tomorrow is oil change day. Out goes the non-detergent and in will go some dino oil for the next couple of weeks. I will keep you posted.

Ingo
