dug my arse outta the abyss.

i be damned, i took my new hi torque starter out, and put it to work holding my garage door opened. found my factory starter, and installed it. i bought the hitorque by mis-interpreting a starter problem, who knew about hydrolock! i checked all my spark plug wires. i found one that had the screw from the beru end poking out of the insulation. i cleaned them and ran them thru the multimeter test. i got about the same reading on all. (3.5 something, i swore it was Kohms???) i checked some vacumn lines, the one that goes to the dist was suspect. fixed that and got into the car. IT STARTED AND WASNT MISSING! when it got warm it ran kinda rough. but i suspect i need to tinker with the CIS and maybe troubleshoot some vac lines and i am away. oh yea the valve adjust too.

thanks guys for tag teaming this thing for me. very grateful

cliff.

my stock starter snapped out "chrisper" than the hitorque unit. this is on the bench. so i just cleaned the old one up, and re-installed it. the new one was grinding. i used a mirror and checked the flywheel, the teeth were perfect. so i didnt want to risk anything. it is amazing how much slower the factory starter cranks the motor. so basically, i dont know what or if anything is the matter with the hi torque unit. but it is friggen brand new from pelican. ohwell.

I had some unusual issues with starters on my VWs. I had to actually install a Ford starter relay to jump my relay on my Ghia. I guess the wiring had deteriated enough that it didnt quite have enough juice to get the job done. I'm not recommending this (although it worked GREAT) but it's possible that your ignition is not passing enough current for reasons of possibly wiring or wiring connections. Just my .02
