The car *is* a RS replica. a '74 Carrera RS 3.0 replica. Matt you're correct, the '74 RSR had extra super duper wide vented fenders.
Oh, and if you don't take it, I'll call your dad and have myself adopted right away.

Couldn't you do a swap with your Dad?

power 02-15-2004 08:27 AM

Well....Since you know the engine was done by an expert, If given the choice Take the 2.9 litre car. If you could somehow keep both? I have followed your progress with your 2.7 litre car and know how much effort it took to finally, just recently, get it running right. I'd be tempted to keep the 2.7 as a daily driver and the 2.9 as a track and occasional car.

If you have kids you could cash in education funds and hope they are self starters?

If your married you could try to hide it from your wife? (when we were kids my friends parents didn't want him to have a car, so he bought one anyway. He parked it two blocks away in a vacant school parking lot and would pretended he was walking to the morning bus then drive to school).

Provisio: I will not be held responsible for any adverse results incurred from follwing any of my hair brained suggestions.

I've seen this car myself and the photos just don't do it justice. For that matter, I doubt any photos taken of this car would show the perfection that it represents.

Congratulations, Matt! :) FWIW, I'd go for the black one, too.

Nice going Matt! And you tried to make out you weren't interested in it!!!

You gotta bring that thing up to Sydney! Love it!

If it's a one or the other choice, Id' go for the black one too but I love the early shades of yellow that you and Adam have. I'm guessing the new car would be a bit more raw compared to the 2.7? If I had the funds I'd gladly take either off your hands.

onewhippedpuppy 02-15-2004 03:07 PM

NOT buying the death mobile should not be an option. The better question is how to keep your 2.7. Doesn't someone need a kidney or something? How about a lung? That car scares me, could you somehow affix that Darth Vader doll to the hood as a hood ornament?:p

vash 02-15-2004 03:08 PM

i just saw your car on your website. i think i like yours better..damn
they both gave me a woody. tuf choice, keep yours and wait until your dad gets tired of the black one......someday......

I wish I could have both cars! The '74 Carrera 2.7 has a lot of sentimental value, which is going to make it very hard to part with.

But the '74 RS replica is a lot more car for the same monthly payment -- it cost close to $200K to build! And it's my dream 911 -- it's black, it's got extra-wide hips, and a strong MFI motor.

Chris,

I wish I could swap with my old man, but he doesn't want a racecar! He confessed to me last night that he bought the RS replica to tie it up for me, which is nice.

Ash,

I'm only interested again because it's $10K cheaper than it was a few weeks ago -- and because I've got as long as I want to get what I want for my car!

geof33 02-15-2004 06:17 PM

Yep, not paying attention... It is a 74 RS. Keep the tail, that's how they came from the factory, only the factory wing had a grill vent. I did not see one on your tail.

tangerine911e 02-15-2004 06:29 PM

Boy oh boy I would find it hard to part with either one! $55K is one amazing bargain. You need to find some way to keep both. What a stable that would be. :) :)

Can I borrow your dad for a nice 964 RS? :D

It's white, race ready with a cage, and rubber half as wide as my '74. It drives up and down our street in front of our studio, and I swear the guy knows I'm inside, watching Daffy Duck make an ass out of himself.

It's a funny thing: there's more friggin' race cars around us than H'wood stars sometimes. All those pent-up sound engineers and post production sorts need their relief valves, I guess...

Oh, well. You tell Roland I'll be ringing him soon.

All the best,

David
(your long lost brother :D )

Matt Holcomb 02-15-2004 10:05 PM

David,

I like your theory, re: pent-up sound engineers and post production sorts.

My brother is a film editor, and this is his relief valve:

will he adopt another one? :D

If I was in the same situation, I'd definintely do it. I have a weakness for widebodies....and 2.9...and those 911R wheels...you get the point.

Matt Holcomb 02-15-2004 10:09 PM

Jeff,

It's a very irresistible combination, I know!

dd74 02-15-2004 10:12 PM

Gosh, Matt. I only wish you could keep both. Hide your Carrera over at Adam's and tell Dad you sold it. Hopefully he won't ask to see a sales receipt. :D

Rufblackbird 02-15-2004 10:18 PM

Speaking of Adam, why not just trade your car for his 911S (I'm guess plus $$) so you know it went to a good home and can still see it/drive it once in a while. Trade your dad the 911S plus $ for the RS. That way, everyone's happy! :D

just reread the first post regarding the car. 917 brakes?
