Can you guess power output of my Turbo??

Hi everyone!!

I have 1991, German spec. 911 (964) Turbo 3.3, 87,000km only now.

But, the owner has modified lots of things on the car (lots of money) and the tuner (Hans Schroder Racing) is no longer in business I think..

As, far as I know... my car has been modified to the following spec..

-modified to 3.4L but same chank.
-modified heads, and MAY be larger valves.
-different camshafts and accessories.
-RS or race clutch with not standard flywheel (lighter).. I can varify because my Starter moter died and the motor was Bosh
but not of Turbo!! Pulling away from lights are a little pain too...
-twin pluged (originally single pluged)
-Same 0.7bar boost, standard inter cooler, and may be standard exhaust..
-modified suspensions, race engine covers, etc...

I was told that power is 400 - 450bhp (Not rear wheel power)..

Can anyone give me a education guesses on the power with above modification?? Is it sound right??

I haven't driven anyone else's 911 Turbo but all I can say is that my car drives beautifully (a little oil leak), and
reaches 0.7bar max boost at about 3100rpm and from 2000rpm+ is smooth and linear power delivery, but after 3000+rpm the car
is very fast and no 'squatting' acceleration... I haven't done more than 140mph (it was very easy!)

Is this a good mod?? Power about right??

I will keep it as long as I can....

Please share some input??

It kind of depends on the compression that the car was changed to if it was. If it's a 3.4, than it has a different set of pistons, so a change in compression is very possible. But if it still has the stock compression and .7bar of boost, i'd say you have about 300-350 rwp. If were you, i'd find out what compression pistons the car was changed to, and from there think about a different intercooler. Then crank the boost up a bit. Especially since it's twin plugged already, i'd run at least 1 bar assuming there's been no compression change.

For that setup, exactly 338.5 RWHP at 5500RPM and not one fraction of one HP more.

From the looks of your list, the P.O. was building
to 400hp. Higher compression is unlikely with a
stock intercooler. Sounds like a solid setup, my
guess is 400/340@rw.
With headers and 1bar you could be at 450hp!

thanks....

Thanks for your inputs.

I should dyno it but I don't have time right now..

IF I WANT TO...... raised to 1bar boost.... It this a chip swap or wastegate things..

Is it quick mod/expensive??? Or do you know anyone who could do the job in uk??

My honest opnion is that compression is slightly above 'normal' setup. The max boost comes in (from what I read of 'original' 3.3Turbo2), 400rpm sooner than normal and 'no lag' at all almost. I am very curious. The originally 3.3 had turbo lag and max boost about 3500rpm right?? I don't think that, if this was the case, by fitting bigger capacity pistons in my 964 and keeping compression, boost the same, the turbo lag and max boost SHOULD be the same as original and but just a little more power. That's just common sense.

So, the original owner has spent nearly 45,000 dollers back in the 90's for the modifications at this race car people, and I believe that there is more than what you can see.. Of course fitting lighter flywheel/race (instead of duel mass flywheel) clutch could also helping it spin up quicker...

Make sense??

Click on the photo and you can see the slider photos. And one shows the engine bay... he has same setup...intercooler as mine..

Similar power too...

it's a "wastegate thing" and can be done very quickly by fitting a T-pipe with a small filter or (not so quickly) by changing wastegate spring.
