How about a bit more respect for each other

The last few remarks on Fendersguy's 911 search thread got me thinking. He has stated clearly that he likes the look of the Flatnose yet it doesn't prevent some from making downright hurtful statements.

If you don't care for the styling of a particular car (or his taste in cars) try to refrain from making JO comments about it. Chances are someone is the receiving end of your remark.

While SC vs Carrera comments can be condesending, they usually don't imply the owner or car is tacky, a drug dealer/pimp, has no taste, piece of $hit etc, etc. And are usually based in fact.

If someone paints their Targa band or targa top the color of the rest of the car you don't see me making a malicious remark.

Just an observation I thought I'd point out.

Series900 02-23-2004 01:24 PM

Yeah, what he said, and I still like getty's 959 kit, matter of fact I am sitting on one, waiting for the right wrecked C4:>)

k9handler 02-23-2004 01:30 PM

hmmmm.....so!

Guess some people do have thin skin, but I do agree that we can be a tad rough at times with name calling and such...piss off wanker.

Ha Ha...just messin with ya. =)

surflvr911sc 02-23-2004 01:39 PM

While inappropriate, it’s going to happen, but it happens here much less than most Boards. The internet allows people to express their emotions much more freely and say things they probably would never say in person.

It really says a lot about a person who will take this kind of abuse w/o retaliation and still keep a good attitude, I think FenderGuy has done a good job at this. Shawn (ThrownHammer) is another that took quite a beating and came out on top. My hat’s off to you guys, unfortunately we can get a little rough at times.

vash 02-23-2004 01:48 PM

there is no way to always correctly interpret someones typing. sometimes it is obvious, which is why loren is probably gone forever. i think it does get rough, but these cars just do that, it brings out the passion in all of us! PASSION is good!

RickM 02-23-2004 01:48 PM

Maybe I do have a thin skin....Maybe not. I probably wouldn't have created this post if I did. :) But I'd hate to see people here refrain from asking questions or reluctant to show off the car they love.

And I agree 1000% this borad is one of the most civil around.

I agree, this is a ”Professional Porsche” Forum. We are all mature adults here, or we should act so. There is no room for petty bickering or bad mouthing someone else’s opinion.

Argument is the spice of life. Argument is stating your opinion and the supporting reasons. It is also stating the counter-argument against someone else’s opinions with supporting “facts.” This should all be done in polite, considerate manner.

If someone has another agenda, they should go elsewhere.

If the Forum changes from a polite, professional discussion of the technical Porsche issues to some “pecker contest” I’ll just go elsewhere. The Moderators should do just that – moderate.

Best,
Grady

You're right Rick and in general too the world would be a whole lot better if we were just a little more accepting of each other's individuality.....sorry if anyone fell asleep there.....

surflvr911sc 02-23-2004 02:13 PM

...and world piece.

EDIT: duh, peace.http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/rainbow.gif

KOOOM BY YAAAAAAAA MY LORD .... KOOOOM BY YAAAAAAAA....

Leland Pate 02-23-2004 02:16 PM

Seriously, good point. The SCWDP has now taken action to lessen the effects of our "Shermans March" style coup at taking over the world as we know it. We were mean, and we appolojize.

Oh crap.... THERE'S A CARRERA!....

"LOAD NUMBER 1 CIGARETTE BUTT!!!!"

Bones 02-23-2004 02:29 PM

I surrender I have an SC honest it just looks like a C2.......

cowtown 02-23-2004 02:34 PM

As one of the guys who called slant noses tacky (actually "tacky tacky tacky") I apologize. Feel free to tell me my car is a Frankenstein abomination - I have gotten more than one e-mail telling me that I destroyed it by swapping engines.

No offense intended. Maybe I should have just said it's not my cup of tea. The bottom line is that if you like something, everyone else can stuff it. :D

Series900 02-23-2004 02:43 PM

Years back, when rennlist was just that a listserv, we lost steve wilkinson, it was a sad day as steve's post were always welcome and insightful, I emailed him several times to no avail, he would not return because of some abuse from who knows. the ghost of steve has reappeared as F.S.W. over here, good thing.

Electronic communications are imperfect. Recipients should recognize that and so should senders.

But I think it is easy to be too thin skinned and to miss a joke when it is here w/o voice inflection, elbows, winks, or other meta-language.

Hugh R 02-23-2004 03:16 PM

I don't type anything I wouldn't say to a person face-to-face. No matter what business or hobby your in, you keep running into the same people. Somebody you seriously flamed and insulted just might remember you when you need advise, help or whatever and they may be the only person who can help or hurt you. Or better yet, what happens when your on a weekend run and you end up sitting at the table for lunch and you realize that the guy across from you is the insulting, flaming, SOB from the board who lambasted you?

motion 02-23-2004 03:21 PM

Oh cmon... how can someone be hurt when someone they don't even know says something derogatory about their car? If its someone you know and they say something about your family, well, that's a different story. These boards are not for the faint of heart... hopefully everyone's figured that out by now and are duly thick-skinned.

motion 02-23-2004 03:22 PM

And just to add... you guys gave more than your fair share of $hit to both Nostatic and me regarding our adventures with the opposite sex, and we're still here. You'll have to do a lot better than that :D

azasadny 02-23-2004 03:23 PM

You guys are the reason I hang out here. Everyone has different experiences and knowledge levels and we can all learn something from each other. We are all exuberant and emotional at times and these cars are one of our passions, so differences of opinion and hurt feelings can result, but lets always keep the lines of communication open and have a great time!

On a personal note, my grandfather (who I am very close to, he's like my father) said the other day "I wish I would have bought a car like yours when I was younger and healthy, I would have had alot of fun...", that made me think about how fortunate we are to be able to enjoy these cars and associate with others who do too. Thanks again, guys!

Joe Bob 02-23-2004 03:37 PM

Oh....puuhhhlllleeeze.....the guy was a troll...contradicted himself five different ways......
