Idea for a cup holder design

A can of soda pop fits perfectly between the seats. I actually wedge it in behind the parking brake.

A better idea would be to manifest a cup holder that "clips" onto the parking brake lever itself. It could be plastic with a metal clip that comes down onto the brake level and clips into place. This could hold a standard can or bottle of pop.

The only drawback would be that the bottle or can would have to be removed when actually pulling the parking brake up into place.

I installed this cup holder with a bracket I made and hinged it so it swings up under the glove box side of the dash. You can't even see it when it is closed up.

I will post some pics when I can get another dig camera. My cheap one went south.

You know that box behind the hand brake, the big one with the knob on top that goes from 1 to 10 and defrost, and DOESN'T DO ANYTHING AT ALL. Well I was planning on removing the guts of it and putting a coke can sized hole in the top of it.

The need is well established, the question is how to best implement the solution.

The cup holder needs to be located near the gear shift so that you can quickly secure the cup when you need to shift.

Bought the $35 cupholder from our host....you know the one that uses the cigar lighter. It works great and although I wish it cost less, the construction is top shelf and I am very happy with the purchase. It passes the "No bling rule" with flying colors.

My wife says their "rice", but they clip on/off in 2 seconds flat. Good for those long hauls when you need some spirits at your fingertips.

Ok, Walmart has a cupholder that is meant to mount down on a flat surface. Like I mounted one on the flat fender of my tractor.

However, I found they fit perfect in door pocket. You just shove down and wala. Holds a 16 ouncer of your favorite beverage. It will work even better when I replace with fiberglass pockets this winter. $1.59 in the automotive section. Now i have to admit this is not the perfect solution but, I found it keeps things out of the way and dry.

I took a beer holder, the ones that hang on the window slot. I cut the hanger part off so all that's left is the two plastic arms that hug your beer and the flat bottom piece. I put this into the door pocket with the flat part (back) up against the post that holds the door handle. I screwed it on with a black trim screw. They come in many colors to match your interior too!

This works great with 12oz cans, long necks, Paper drink cups and a tall thin coffee cup with no handles. Careful, if you slam the door hard it will foam!

I use the warm ball method to secure my coffee cup. A large towel on my lap protects me from overspray.

I simply use the door pocket. Most cups and cans fit great in the space just in front of the door latch. After doing this for years there is no decernable damage to either the door panel or the pocket. I just need to be sure not to slam the door while the drink is in the pocket!
