Not impressed with the 930S steering wheel

My 930S steering wheel came today, and I installed it. I was not impressed.

1. The leather quality feels rough in my hand
2. One of the 3 horn mounting holes was improperly drilled so that if the bolt is attached, the horn would be on all the time. So I left it off and just used two screws.

The original 930S steering wheel I bought 10 years ago from AJ Racing in San Diego, fit perfect, and the leather felt like butter in my hand, and it had a Porsche logo already installed.

They sure don't make them like they used to.

Too late now. It is not worth it to yank it out, pay to send it back, and lose shipping cost twice to buy another one. You are right though, should have gone with the Momo like the one on my Ferrari.

I have the identical wheel.

I seem to recall there were screws with different lengths. Try swapping a few and see if you can get all three in.

If you have bad leather, return the wheel. My leather feels very smooth - not rough.

Return it. You touch that thing every time you drive the car! If you are worried about sending it back and the double shipping, sell it on ebay. I would never stay with something I am not satisfied with on a machine that I own solely for my enjoyment! Do it! MOMO!

I'd return it. I've had both the Pelican and the AJ USA one, all within the last four years. No differences that I could tell. My guess would be it's the same manufacturer.

I'm just not crazy about the 930S wheel, it's "close but no cigar" IMO. This is the only wheel for me, (RUF):

You must have gotten a bad one. I just installed mine (from PP). Looks great, feels great. No installation problems. I did however send back the weird eccentric spacer.

Do you have the horn wires on correctly? The longer one belongs inside, otherwise the horn is indeed in perma on mode.

Sorry to hear about your experience. The 930S wheel is absolutely the best interior upgrade I have done. It looks great and feels even better in my hands.

Double check the installation trick that Emission mentioned. Or call PP. They can probably help with the horn issue.

Porsche Crest

I just installed my PP 930S wheel and have to both agree and disagree...I love the feel and the look of the wheel, but...

-- I hate the eccentric spacer also...I tried it for a day and removed it -- I hope PP will take it back

-- While the leather has a nice feel, the seams where the rim meets the spokes are horrible and should be a lot nicer for a wheeel with this price tag

-- I purchased the crest, but don't know how I'm going to drill the horn cover to make sure it is aligned correctly, any ideas?

I just didn't like the idea of drilling a hole in the horn cover and wasn't sure I would get it centered. So I used rubber cement which gave me time to make sure the crest was where I wanted it and holds the crest firmly in place. Been on there over a year with no problem.

I didn't like the spacer humpty hump motion either. I got some longer screws, cut the center out, and used it like a giant washer to space the wheel out farther from the dash. My wheel felt very nice and soft by the way, after I used some Meguiars leather goo on it.

No, the 3 smal screws are of the same size. The bad hole did not have a plastic seat so metal to metal contact was made which turns the horn on.

I am debating whether to yank it out and return it. Bad news is I already glued on the Porsche logo so I would not be returning it in the same condition I bought it. But, it is a defective wheel.

And I got the wirings correct.

Return just the wheel and get a better one of the same kind. My first 930 wheel from our host had an off center horn pad, which they gladly replaced no problem.
