Pic Needed: Pedal Assembly Clutch Return Spring
In the process of replacing the sqeaking pedal assembly bushings in my 71 Targa, I discovered some creative engineering by a previous mechanic. The factory clutch pedal shaft was replaced by what looks like a rather nicely fabricated hand made one. Problem is, the factory return spring cannot attach to it, so the spring was left out!! Plus, it slides back and forth about 3/4' in the assembly.
I would like to return the assemby to stock. I've obtained a factory return spring and am trying to source a factory clutch pedal shaft. What I can't figure out is how the factory return spring attaches to the factory pedal shaft and sole plate that entire assembly mounts to. Every way I look at it, it seems as if the spring is wound in the exact opposite direction it should be??? Hopefully someone here has a picture of an assembled unit they could graciously post as this would be near impossible to describe with only words. I have looked everywhere for pictures and can't find one. I could use what I have by fabricating a sleeve to take out the slop and rigging up a return spring but would rather not go down that road. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Greg.
Send me your email. I rebuilt mine last year and took a bunch of pics. They are too big to post. poorsha@shaw.ca
