Interesting. If they can do this I wonder how tough it is to stuff a 996 motor in an earlier car. I thought it was pretty intensive.

Why would anybody want less HP. Their 2.7 is 150 as opposed to Porsche's 30 year old engine is 175.

Yeah, not sure I see the point here???? I guess in this case, I really would "rather have a V8"!!!

you could do it for ALOT less yourself, the transmission adaptors have been around for awhile, used 1.8 turbo subies are everywhere and the svx had like a 3.0 turbo. far better choice than tainting your 911 with chevy 350....only if it was a 912 or a t model of course.

A little pricey in lieu of a 3.6 conversion.
Sounds cool, though. I wonder how much "lighter" these engines are? 1.8 or 3.0 Subaru turbo...hmmm...interesting...

$9900 for the 3.3 liter, 230hp version, and it appears as though that doesn't even include the cost of the engine.

Forget about the subaru engine .. Go with a chevy V8
I have a nice aluminum headed 465 HP 355 ci , in my '75 911 mated to a 930 trans .. a real nice set up, and prob fast as you would ever want to go ... and if something happens to the motor you can prob get just about any engine part you need at your local pepboys ![]() - Joe - Guys .. dont flame me .. I also have my 'Porsche powered' 3.6 RS clone I built .. that I also love ![]() Last edited by POVI; 02-26-2004 at 10:33 AM.. |

Call me crazy but couldn't you just rebuild your "tired" engine for that price or less? Hell my swap from a 2.0 to 3.0SC only ran me around $5000, and that included converting the Zenith carbs to larger venturis to run the 3.0 and an MSD system. Add the mega squirt sometime down the road and I'll probably still be under $6500 for a motor with 80k miles.

John - you certainly are a voice of reason.
I thought the Subaru engine was an interesting idea though, just to try something different. I still like the idea of a 996 engine or a water-cooled Boxster, perhaps, in a 911, though Tyson stated it to be potentially very complicated and expensive.

I agree dd74, that the Subaru engine is an interesting idea. But it sure strikes me as an "answer to a question which wasn't asked" or the solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
