Temperature sensor
Ok, i was about to install my new temp sensor onto the engine when i noticed that the connection at the top of the sensor is different from the one it's replacing. The one on the motor has a wierd dish looking head, while the new one has a regular male eletrical fitting. The part number of the new one is 911 606 112 00 and pet shows both this part number and another, 901 641 632 00. Can someone shed a little light on this for me?

Is the gauge numbered or not???
The second, older p.n. you listed is for the numbered gauge. The round 'mushroom cap' style Faston post is designed to relieve strain on the wire for any angle, but the older tab style works just fine on the older sensors!

So the sensor came in both that dish looking cap and the male electric connector? Mine car doesn't have the number gauge for oil temp, so this is the correct temp sensor. But that different style connection throws me off.

1fastredsc, I just changed both the gauge and the temp sender on my 83SC. The temp sender that I removed was like yours with a male connection. The replacement had the dish style. It worked with no problem at all.
On a side note, my gauge read that my car was running very hot. Another Pelicanhead asked me if the temp sender unit and the gauge matched. I was not sure, so I decided to change them prior to spending a bunch of money on external coolers. With the new matching parts, my car now gives an accurate reading in the 190 degree range.

hmmm, that makes me curious now as to whether that was my issue with the car reading 240-250 on steady cruises.

1fastredsc, I bet that would solve your problem. It did for me.
Good luck, David
