Alarm siren location

Hi Guys & Gals,

I am getting an alarm installed in my '82 Coupe and would like to know where the best location to mount the siren is? I have heard that mounting it in the front of the car or in the cabin drowns out the sound of the siren considerably.

I was thinking of either the underside of the turbo wing or the right side of the engine bay (next to the air con)

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Get a high pitch, high db siren and mount it inside the cabin. It will lower the sound level a bit, except for inside the car where the thief is. There it will be deafening, actually painful if you have the right siren.

When I had my alarm redone the guy used a siren I had laying around...here's where he put it. Sound carries pretty well.

The factory installed mine next to my fuel pump, attached to the front crossmember. It is protected by the skid plate in that location & was fairly loud. I think I'm going to relocate it in the trunk near the vent opening.

Cool

the alarm brain puts out around 1 amp, check alarm paperwork.

1 amp is enough to operate a relay.
From the relay can be attached an electrinic siren and an air horn compressor that will get noticed.

PS: don't overload the brain or Kaput

I second the post for putting a high freq. siren inside, Under the dash where it is hard to get to...

It makes it extremely uncomfortable for those thieves wishing to visit your car while your're away. The sirens on the outside don't get much attention nowadays....better yet do both....just be sure to use relays or you will fry the alarm brain.

I recently purchased an 82 SC (with a Code Alarm after market system) and am having problems with the siren(s). They just love to go off while I'm sitting at stop lights or am cruising down the freeway. I had a shop rip it out but all they could pull was the the brain and wiring. They couldn't find the siren(s), and they still go off!

The sirens are not mounted inside the car as it is not very loud to my ears, but I can tell it is to others outside the car, as everyone looks...

Does anyone have any idea where I can locate these damn things? They must be removed and crushed before causing any more embarrassment!

I was able to cram two Hella Twin Supertone horns in the factory location next to the steering rack, above the skid plate. It took a lot of trial and error, and refitting, but it works GREAT. Those horns cause the ground to vibrate. They are run on a relay and consume 100watts each.

I believe the original location for the installed stock horn on my 88 is in the left rear quarter in the engine compartment against the side. It appears that part of the black plastic cover was cut away to allow the horn to fit.

I appreciate the feedback!

I have to say, it sounds like the siren(s) is up in the front.

Hmmm, next to the steering rack, above the skid plate? Does anyone have a pic of this area? I am new to P-cars and am not sure how to access certain areas. How would I find this area?

Thanks.

Have you checked under the front, at the fenders, bumper, valance, etc? You will have to have power going to it, so you should be able to trace the wires to the noise maker.

I put the alarm control in the trunk under the driver side fender and the siren near the battery. I configured it to honk the horns as well as to sound the siren. Since I've got a cabrio it makes it a little less likely that someone could disable the alarm than if it were under the dash.
