Does this look right? Recaro Pole Position mounting problems in an early car

Hi Folks,
Just bought an almost new Pole Position seat yesterday (14 hour round trip, 700 miles ) and trying to mount it today in my '72. The bolts on the stock sliders (well...don't know exactly what year it's off of) don't match up to the brackets, nor does the bolts match up to the bolt holes in the car. I'm confused...not too sure what do to right now. If I was back home I would start cutting, drilling, and tapping new threads, but right now I have very limited tools. Here's some pics:

The "adapters"

seat rail attached to stock seats

seat that came out

If I try mounting them directly to the car, the holes don't match up, and it's too narrow. I'm stuck. What doesn't look right? Should I opt for the BK mount? Do the brackets look right? Bought the setup used, and these used to be on a VW. Thanks!

I used some 2"x1/8" flat steel stock to mount the Recaros in my '73, kinda like what you've got.

Time to drill some holes.

guess that's what I'm gonna have to do...

Do the side brackets look backwards? They seem like it, but yet will not fit the other way around.

I was told the pole position is fractionally wider than other recaro seats, SPG for example, so when mounting in a 911 the standard recaro side mounts end up too far apart.
There are some aftermarket mounts available that drop straight down from the side of the seat, rather than angling away and outwards, which sould allow the pole position to bolt straight in. Here in the UK they are avalable from Southbound Motor Trimmers. Not sure about the US tho.

Hope this helps... Jon H

Yes, The side rails on the seat itself are on backwards..

I made my own side mounts using 2" x 4" x 1/4" alum. If your going to track the car I would suggest upgrading to a Recaro sliders that lock on both sides instead of one.

actually the brackets end up a tad too narrow in width when placed in the car. I read that the early 911s had wider seat brackets, which probably is my problem.

Looks like you had newer seats in an early car. The factory adapters on the car, bottom of picture two, can also be removed to accomadate the wider seats. (6 allen bolts) But most people just make some brackets. You can get alum, or steel flat stock from Home Depot and mount them to the body, like your second picture, and simply drill the correct holes to mate with your seats.

The early cars actually had narrower seats, which is why you have that adapter. The wider, newer seat cars dont have that.

Jeff, or anyone, I have been looking for a set of those adapters for a long time, let me know if you arent going to use them.

Sorry...worded my last post wrong. The Pole Position, when placed in the car, is narrower than the factory brackets. But the idea of replacing the factory bracket isn't a bad idea...

Forgot to mention that the "adapters" were used to mount the regular seat...

Anyone? Still having trouble, and road trip starts tomorrow...

If the mounts on the car was just a tad bigger...or just a tad smaller it would be so much easier!!
