Here's the most recent stuff I've done to my car. God I've only had the car since last July. And it has been off the road since November. I really really can't wait until I get it on the road again and try out my upgrades!

So here we go.

My Porchse mechanic friend took my gearbox to fix my first gear problem at the end of January, so I've had a lot of time of time to clean up and do some detailing and fixing up der porsche.

So here's a couple of pics of what the engine looked like before. My previous posts have other pics. Not pretty at all, but somewhat presentable. We need to fix that.




So I dove right in and started scrubbin and I just scrubbed the ***** out of everything for days and days. That crap they used for the soundpad just sucks. Actually cleaning the entire engine sucked quite bad too. My dad got me some industrial strength degreaser from work. AWESOME stuff!! It looks oil based and you spray it on, it breaks down the oil and grime, and then evaporates just leaving pockets of oil that can be erasily cleaned out. Many many old tooth brushes and towels were sacrificed.



See those stains on the rear Porsche reflector? Well I took that off (from behind), and blasted off all the silver paint backing that was flaking off (which looks like stains in the front of the reflector). I re-epoxied all the broken platic studs the PO brokeoff as he tried to pry the reflector off from the front. Note to Pelicans, DO NOT PRY OFF THE REAR REFLECTOR IT WILL NOT WORK. You will need to undo the clams from behind. I repainted the silver reflector backing and re-installed it. It looks just like new now! I'll take and post a pic of this (eventually)

Here's the clean engine compartment. It took forever!!



I installed the chain tensioner update. Very simple to do.



My dad took the metals to work and got them all sand blasted (fan, shroud, belt, valve covers, chain covers and etc). Once I got them back, man they looked beuatiful! I sent them in for powder coating and here are the results. All clean now! I also went a little crazy with the dremel tool and the valve covers.







On a tangent, I bought and installed a 930s steering wheel from PP. Luckily I got it at the nice $229 price, and it immediately went up to $315 in the next day!



So Stu invitied me over and showed me how to disassemble the gearbox. I think the first gear dogteeth are bad eh?!? Missing 5 teeth, nowhere to be found (could explain the fine dust on the magnetic bolt). Replacement of 1st gear syncro is needed too, it is vurtually flat and shiny. Well luckily he's got these handy and the gearbox will be done in the next day or so.



I also took off the pressure plate and replaced the nearly worn clutch disc. The flywheel, pressure plate and TO bearing looked great. So Stu got me just a Sach's clutch disc and I put it in.

And while I was in there anyway, I also checked the blowerfan, alternator, and starter brushes and they all were in great shape. So I cleaned and dressed these up.

So, now Stu and I will attach the gearbox, re-install the motor, install the SSI exhaust and Danske DI/SO muffler, and we fire her up. Maybe tomorrow, maybe next week, maybe who know right now cuz I have to work and make money to pay for these upgrades. Damn.

What is that swtich on the dash just left of the heater control switches?

Hi Doug,

The switch is to raise/lower my power antennae. I will be replacing that switch with a knob matching the others on the dash shortly.
