Question External oil cooler cleaning

While going through the wash, polish, wax routine today, I noticed my external oil cooler is a mess. I need to clean it but am not sure the best way to go about it. Is soapy water and a high pressure washer the way to go or would I be better off spraying it with a degreaser. The horns, while disconected, are still behind the cooler. Since the PO connected a toy horn in the truck that I'm embarrassed to ever use, I'm trying to be carefull not to ruin the originals. I figure someone else has done this before so any input would be appreciated.

SAYD,

Remove everything around the cooler. Horns, rock shield, turn signal assembly, bumper end piece, etc.

Get some Stoddard Solvent (mineral spirits will do) and a big bag of floor dry (kitty litter). Get the oil warm and then hose down the oily parts cooler with solvent. A garden sprayer works well. Use a stiff brush. Repeat over several hours. Finally take the 911 to a high pressure car wash and clean the best you can.

Repeat as necessary.

What type cooler do you have?

Best,
Grady

Also, fix those leaks. You are probably leaking at the hose/cooler union.

No leaks yet but I just switched to Mobil 1 this morning so lets give it some time before I commit. The bottom 2/3 of the cooler is just covered in a dry brown dust but the top 1/3 is covered in a black potting soil type mixture. I'm assuming it's just an accumulation of road sludge but it's worked it's way into the fins. I can't say what type of cooler it is but it looks like the Lemke Design.
