Very neat page I watched you work for a while. I wish I had some of your talent, my money would go further.

Keep up the nice work, I think you will have an awesome Targa.

Ha! Thats cool. Makes up for Kevin being off the air for a while! Your neighbours must think you're weird having the car sitting out there like that!

Actually they are use to it. When I moved here 4 years ago I started by remodeling the house and painting it. When I was done with that I started on the car. I guess they thing I'm a little excessive when it comes to doing it yourself.

Pat,

You are a wild man!!.

I wish you were my neighbor. I would be in your garage with my SC every day the wife let me!. It must be nice to have the skills to perform that type of work.
I am used to getting my pockets fleeced by so called PCA mechanics trying to subsidize their retirement on my upgrade projects here in NJ.

Targa80 - you are my inspiration. The camera is great - I have your clock about 8 min slow.

My booth is "hung", filtered ventilation established and today I fired up the HVLP gun and shot primer on the removed panels. Wonderful. I had thought I would start by spraying over the new undercoating on the fenders but my first surface ever using a spray gun was my hood! A little too much in the crease and a few runs on other panels but looking good. Opportunity to use my Run Razor.

Your color is solid - I will likely be doing a metallic / clear coat. I have heard that it is best to spray metallics all at one thime and am planning a strategy of doing jambwork and then remounting the doors, fenders and hoods for the final exterior spray. From the painted bolts for these items it looks like this is the factory way as well.

Stop talking to your neighbor, and get back to work! Your work on your Targa is truly amazing, you're taking DIY to new heighths. That car will be better than new when you're done, very nice.

I checked mt clock it is off by 8 min I will fix it later.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement.

RoninLB: I assume you mean the paper towels I have been using to wipe away all the stripper and car crud. I hope I don't put them anywhere near my nose that stripper stings/burns. I had to run to the sink several times to wash some off my arms when I rubed up against it.

Well it time to close up shop for the day. Finished cleaning one fender completely and the second one is about 95% done.

Pat

I also aspire to paint a car but am confused over several issues. I just read the book coincidently titled "how to paint your car". Your link to your web page shows exactly what I want to do.

If you don’t mind my asking a few questions;

What paint gun did you use? Was it HVLP? What size air compressor did you use? Would one rated 8.8 scfm power that gun?

Did you use a two part base coat and/or clear coat? Where you worried about isocyanates? Did you have an air-supplied respirator like all the product data sheets tell you? What did you use for fans and filters in your booth?

How bad did it smell outside your garage? Would your neighbors know what was going on if you didn’t tell them and had the door closed most the way? After reading all the OSHA stuff I’m surprised this stuff isn’t regulated like buying R-12 freon.

Thanks

p.s. that might be more than a few questions.

You have the car on a rotisserie in your front driveway?? I'm surprised your neighbors haven't had the City confiscate your house or something!

Maybe Pat has promised them all a ride once it's all put together.

Nice work. Looks like it's in the garage now.

Everything goes into the garage at the end of the day. The neighbors consider my house to be one of the nicer houses on the block.

Could you share the rotiserrie plans? I've been working under my current project car and will not do this again if I can avoid it.

BTW - Great work and nice web site. I missed the garage cam action today. I'll tune in later.
