custom door panels part 1..........audio related

my custom door panels are started......here are some pics and a method i've used for years, this method can be applied to anything......even custom stuff in the house

for the doors you'll need a few things:
new panel (i'm using 1/8" traced from the stock panel) with the speaker plate
a quality hot glue gun
grill cloth
firberglass resin/hardner

i wanted a smooth transition so i used a rail for the flush edge on the center of the panel. these are being made for 8" mb quarts.
here are the pics......

Nice job Bell-what's your goal here--looks like to house some 8" speakers in the door to accomodate the depth of the driver mag.

yes 8"s in the door for mid-bass, there is a single 10" up front for the lower octave.
these new panels are a hair shallower then the factory door pockets.
these will be covered in black vinyl with a flush grill over the speaker.

Bell, very nice. I'm sure those 8s will provide excellent midbass. Be sure to show us what the final product will look like.

Bell--are these for a customers custom application? or for you? Will this require cutting the hole bigger in the door (metal)? Hopefully not. Will these be for sale to the general public when the prototype is completed? I may be interested.

nice, well done, having worked on my car today I know how good it feels to get something done, seeing it come together, etc.

these are for my carrera, yes i will have to cut some metal for the 8"s to fit but positioned correctly a 6.5" could fit while being built out only 1".
i have thought about mass producing some.........i want to get these done first.......there's an art to this to really make it match the car, and there is one person on this board (mjshira) who is going to be the first "guinnee pig" for some new panels, as he emailed me a while ago about some.

if there is an intrest in these please let me know........i'm very good at what i do (arrogance huh?) and 911 door panels are pretty simple. i could make them to work with the stock handles or i may figure out something else.....

my panels are going to be pretty interesting..............i'm utilizing plexi-tube as the handles, they will illuminate white when door is closed (interior lite) and red when opened (for safety).....i can't describe it....i have a vision in my head and i'm duplicating it with my hands

would you consider making a set of these for my 89 930 and if so, what would you charge? Also, have you ever considered making a rear sub box, sonmewhat like Z-box used to make? This box was designed for subs and was installed on the rear package tray or deck (on top of and behind the rear seats.

if you are interested in the job, I would be interested in purchasing a pair of your custom made door speaker panels. I have an 87 930 and would like the panels in black. contact me at david.j.holmes@us.army.mil

Great work. Nothing like good sound in a 911.

Meanwhile... I know the color is hideous but I've always thought the speaker pod execution on this car was one of the best ever for a 911.
I'm planing on going to RS door panels in my car so I may do something similar but smaller.

EDIT: Note how the arm rest and pod are all one piece. You could seal this area from behind.

If that interior was dyed/painted black professionally - it might be tollerable - except the dash - that would have to go.

And very nice work on the speaker panels. Very impressive.
