Installing optima redtop in 964

Hey everyone,

I need to put a new battery in my '92 C2 an I want to put an optima redtop in, but I know in earlier cars they need an adapter to fit correctly. I have not seen anyone that sells adapters for 964s. Does anyone know if the 964 doesn't need an adapter? If it does where canI find one.

Thanks,
Andrew

I don't use one in mine. Battery nice and snug. You just have to put the hold-down plate against the side of the Optima and torque it down.

just a follow up... I installed the Optima red top yesterday, and boy was it a pain in the butt. It took about 2 hours to figure out where to best fit the battery, and recrimp the positive connection, since the stock one would not fit over the edge of the optima.

I absolutely would not advise that anyone install an optima in a 964 without making their own mounting bracket!

you cannot get it in there securely without one, and you don't want to torque down on the mounting bracket too much because you can puncture a cell.

For my car, especially since it sees a lot of track use, my boss and I decided to get some fairly heavy steel and put 3 90 degree bends in it so that it will fit over the optima and bolt into the side of the trunk, and into the original hole for the mounting bracket. That's probably the easiest/cheapest way to do it.
