Please look at my pedal cluster. Am I missing something?

I just reassembled after installing the new bushings. Am I missing something where the blue arrow is pointing? It seems that the entire pedal tube assembly can slide left or right the width of this gap. It was like this when I took it out of the car.

Seems strange.

found it in the pile of rags and trashed bushings. Looks better?

I feel just a tad silly right now.

You won't believe it but I haven't cleaned this up at all. Just wiped it down with some paper towels once I had it apart. Taht little dab of red in the front right corner is the OEM paint labeling that the nut was torqued. The roll pin pressed out no problem. A few taps with a hammer and a punch. Literally three taps. I think it came out easy because my pedal spindle thingy was cracked and my clevis mount end was almost worn through. Here are some pics.

This was a close call in my estimation.

I can't seem to get the roll pin in though. Hmmmm.

good catch! i paid a machinist $20 to handle the pin for me. he punched it out and i took it home, did the work and he pushed the new one back in. it took him a few minutes. i wish i could have seen him work. i dont even know what type of press he used.

are you changing your clutch cable too? dont cheap out like me, i had to go in a few weeks later with a new cable. pita!

Yeah, that's how this whole thing started. New clutch cable and I noticed the worn bushing on the arm. Then when I removed the arm I saw the cracked spindle.

I got the pin in. For anyone in the future reading this the key is to start the roll pin by pressing just the pin and the clutch arm in a vice. You have to wiggle the clutch arm while pressing the pin so it seats. Once you have almost deep enough where if you went any deeper the arm wouldn't pass over the spindle, slide the arm over the pedal spindle and do the rest with a hammer. It should go together fairly easily.
