Fine scratches in windshield
Has anyone ever had success in polishing out fine scratches in a windshield? How was it done?

Try Eastwood.

Most auto glass shops have the polishing stuff. I forget the name, but I had some awhile back from CR Lawrence which is a wholesaler to any type of glass business. It is machined with a rotary hard felt pad in a drill motor. It's useless to try to do it by hand. If you can feel the scratch with a finger nail, it won't come out.
The name is coming to me, something like cerium oxide. |

Be very carefull not to heat the windshield too much as you polish out the scratches - it can turn your scratch into a crack.

I bought some Bar Keeper's Friend the other day for cleaning the shower, so maybe I'll have to give it a try. Thanks.

How do you use the BK Friend product? By hand or machine?

I tried the Eastwood kit a couple of years ago on our Volvo. It really didn't do that much. Save the money for something else on the P-car. Bon Ami or Barkeepers Friend do just as well.

By hand, another cheat is Borax. Any fine grind semi abrasive seems to work, but I only know of the two. I will be doing my winter car in the next couple of days so I can post pictures (if I can take them) to show the difference.

Tried the Bar Keeper's Friend last night with basically no visible improvement. Not much of a loss though. I was planning on replacing the windshield soon anyway.
