I'm starting to gather some information that hopefully can be used to select a second Porsche in the future. Is there a source that shows the original MSRP including option pricing for various years? Also, where can I find information on the production quantities for various years by model?

See "Original Porsche 911" by Peter Morgan. I have this book and it gives all the production numbers including chassis and engine numbers for all 911's from 1963 thru 1998. No price information though. It's also an awesome read.

Not only that, but Porsche pricing is completely turned upside down. I really want a 98 993 but I'm finding that some of them are priced identical to a 2002 996. I'm a die hard air cooled guy but how do you pass up a Porsche that's 4 years newer and still under warranty for the same price. It seems as if the old axiom "buy the newest you can" is only valid through 1998. Since I already have a SC, I'm not under any pressure to buy so this exercise may drag on a few years. |

"Porsche Red Book" by Paternie provides build by year and pricing for that time period-covers 1965-1999. It is very detailed on option codes, USA vs ROW cars etc. Cool book to have as a reference. Kind of narrows down the history for your car.
