Are you a PCA member?

Just curious about the Pelican population. If you are a member or plan to, splain the benefits. Vote early, vote often!

Joined up and shortly afterward went to the annual picnic and spent 3 hours without anyone so much as saying hello or get out of the way....snooty group up here i guess. that was 4 years ago and plan never to join up again.

the LA section seems to be just into wine and cheese. I've been a member now for a few years, but joined POC last month and may not renew PCA.

This topic was on the 911 Registry and produced some interesting comments which I'm sure will be echoed here.

As I said over there, my first experience with PCA was entering my freshly painted '77 Targa in a "wash and shine" as a guest in '83. But, it was a cliquey group and I chose to abstain from membership.

Fast forward to last year when I went up to Irwindale PCA autox to look around. I had the money to join in my pocket and walked up to the regsitration table about mid morning when the poeple there didn't seem to be too busy. They never looked up, said hello, nada. So, I'm still not a member. Two strikes.

I joined last year & went on a couple of tours, seemed like a nice crowd. This year I plan to get a little more involved.

If your profile didn't say you were from Oregon, I would of guessed you were speaking of the Phoenix chapter. I received the same treatment, fortunately it was before I signed up. A bunch of snooty pricks for the most part.

I was a member for a total of 26 years on and off. Been off for a while.

L.A. region might as well not exist. Grand Prix region is about 7 people who all know each other and don't care to know anyone else. I went to the '98 Monterey event with Grand Prix and over 2-1/2 days, nobody spoke to me. Those few I spoke to didn't respond.

On the other hand, when I lived in the Bay Area, Golden Gate Region had some great driving events...

The national magazine is nice, but after 500 issues, not much of it seems fresh.

Phew....i thought it was me. I'm in PCA-LA, and agree with others above. LA region kinda sucks. No DE's. No AutoX. Monthly breakfast with maybe 4-5 in attendance. I'm still in for Panorama, and do attend some of the Tech Sessions, spectator at concours, etc.

btw, at Calif Speedway today, PCA SanDiego and Riverside had their club races, and noticed one 911 w/ Ca. License plate: "PCA.ORG"

I have been to a few events...but most of all Panorama, the local pub, and the free tech sessions are worth it alone. I actually bought my 911 off of of the PCA website believe it or not.....and I got a good deal. At the events I have attended you have a very small DIY crowd with most of them being into collecting, and restoring but not themselves. Very friendly, and lots of $. I met a guy that had 9 Porsches, a mint 356 all the way up to a 930 turbo with every RUF option you can order. Pretty neat!

well I am a member and I don't see any benefit at all!
PCA Germany holds a few autox events that I attend, and they also do trips to the factory and Ruf (I have not been to either) but it's possible to do all of the above as a non-member. So since I basically am missing the entire years events (Autox) due to my location...I will not be looking to renew with the PCA.

I've been a member for 3 years. My group in Louisville Kentucky is open and friendly. But unlike myself... only a few wrench on their cars. Dan

When I joined in ’95 the group was dominated by a “what color should I order” crowd. I dropped out for a couple years and came back 2 years ago. Whole new group and attitude. Once I get my engine sorted out I’ll start taking advantage of the DE’s and other driving events they have on a regular basis.

I've been a member for about 1-1/2 years in the San Diego region, have attended tech sessions, autocross, and the performance driving school.
I guess I'm lucky zone 8 SDRegion is active and holds some great events with people of all ages.
They even did Cal Festival of Speed this weekend, which I had to miss

PCA seems to be hit or miss with regards to activities and "group friendliness". I've been in several different regions. Currently, my wife and I are fortunate enough to belong to the Shenandoah (Virginia) region. Our group is largely comprised of people who sincerely enjoy driving their cars as opposed to those who regard Porsches as "pieces of jewelry". Unfortunately, Panorama (the PCA magazine) has become more of a conduit for factory new car propaganda. The magazine used to strike a nice balance between the "new car propaganda" and the "enthusiast" coverage. Fortunately, we have a great magazine in Excellence and this forum to aid those of us who enjoy working on our cars as much as we do driving them. I will continue to renew my PCA membership as long as my local group stays active.
