Rookie question - SC exhaust backdate

Am I correct in understanding that 66-73 SSI exchangers will bolt onto the heads of a 3.0?

I would think that the exhaust ports would be moved farther apart by the increase in displacement?

What am I missing here?

The SSIs will bolt to any 911/964 engine. There are 2 different flange thicknesses for the SSIs thin flange is preferred bit not absoluely necessary for early cars and thick for later. The difference in flange thickness is only to accomodate the existing studs(which can be easily swapped out). The MFI cars SSIs also had a special stove to provide heat to the MFI t-stat.

Remember that SSI is short for Stainless Systems Inc. a company that makes these in....... stainless steel.
Heatexchangers are not always "SSI" as others make them like "Dansk".
Bill is correct that early heatexchangers will fit your SC engine.
However I think some of the early OE heatexchangers where smaller dia. and therefore not well suited for SC engine use, correct me if I'm wrong.
This exhaust backdate is one of the better upgrades you can do to your engine, IMO.
