Track tow hooks on an SC. Where are the best attachment points?
I want to add a front and rear two hook to my '83 SC for off-track excursions. I don't want to add the rear suspension mounted one or the one that attaches to the front control arm mount. I want to mount to bumper or chassis parts and have it be easily accessible. I don't believe my generation has provisions for the screw in type hooks...or does it? Any ideas?

In front I have same problem and haven't figured it out yet.
In the rear there is a plug to remove in the bumper and you should be able to install your towhook into a keyhole slot. Pic of SC towhook. ![]()

The hole in the bumper is round and in the left longitudinal there's a keyhole slot.
Perhaps not in US models.

Same in rear of my US 76S...
You can just see it in this pic: ( about the 11 o'clock position from the axis of my track pipe. ![]() For the front, there is a loop or plate with a hole in it at each of the front t-bar cap. You can get fancy and make a custom job to mount to the shock bracket mounting bolts on the chassis, but that would be an overkill on a stock SC. And if you don't have the loop or plate on the front T-bar cap, get a welder to weld one on...or get longer high grade bolts and mount a fab'd hook over the cap using the long bolts |

My 2c.
Find two pieces of heavy duty strapping or webbing - like cargo tie down straps. Find anywhere on the front or rear of the car with a bolt, loop the strap, make two holes in the free ends of the strap and bolt them in with large washers. They look best when poking out of the gap between the top of the bumper and the bottom edge of the front and rear gaurds. Very simple and super light. I'll see if I can find a pic somewhere...

Not sure if Pelican sells these - but if not they probably could get them. These are Weltmeister bolt-on front and rear tow hooks - they look pretty good to me:

Thanks for all of the input but I am looking for something the wrecker can pull up to and hook onto easily. The tow hooks that are connected to the front t-bar caps are well hidden by body work and would rip the front valance off if used to connect a strap to. There good for flat bed tie down points but not for winching or to pull from.
In looking at things I am thinking of using one of my fog light bolt holes and bolting a flat piece of aluminum with a large hole in it for someone to hook onto. My only issue is whether or not the bumper shock is capable of being pulled on (as opposed to being pushed on when in an accident) because this is what will be happening if I pull via the fog light bolt hole. I am still a bit lost for what to do in the rear.

ZCAT, those are not tow hooks. They are tie downs. The track saftey wokers don't want to and don't need to lay on the ground to hook you up. And, if you're unlucky enough to end up in a gravel pit, they couldn't get to those anyway.
Tow hooks need to be up where they can be easily seen and attached to. |

Milt - you are right. I thought all Carreras had the rear tow hook mount threaded into the bumper?
I know my 993 also has a front tow hook mount, but the Carrera does not. I recently had to have my 87 Carrera winched onto a trailer and for the life of me I do not know how it was done. It was towed in from the front by a Porsche shop, but I failed to pay attention to where they hooked the winch. Tying it down on the trailer was a bit more of a challenge which is what made me think of those Weltmeister tie down mounts.
