Doozer, it's pretty cool that your mom had a 930.

Emission 04-08-2004 11:23 AM

Don't get caught. You really don't want to know how sucky things could be.

They'll hang you from the highest yardarm in the British Fleet.

I once got a 95 in a 55, Lawyer time:(

A friend of mine has a non-Pcar set up for drag racing. Its done 11.7 on nitruos. One summer day on a clear road with nothing around he opened it up to the top of 3rd. Straight into a laser trap. Even though he was doing triple the limit, they just gave him a regular ticket. The real reason they didn't give him more was that they said he was accelerating so fast they couldn't get a stable reading! He was super polite and had a clean record. Then afterwards gave them a lesson on how nitrous works. How you treat them can help.

Thanks Jgordon, She rocked! Rest her soul....

Let me get this straight -- if I engage in a speed contest or attempt to elude police I'd get 12 points and lose my license for a year. If I was a driver for employement and did the same thing I would get 12 points but KEEP my licenses???

Whasupwidat???

porschenut 04-08-2004 12:42 PM

Hey, looks like the worst I could get is 90 days in jail, $300 fine, and 1 year license suspension! Now, where'd I leave those keys....

BTW, for the record there were no other vehicles in sight when I did this, so at least I was only risking my own safety.

Still, sharing a cell with Bubba isn't on my life's list of things to do. As for shiny bracelets, I've tried them on before and didn't like them at all.

Porschenut - "BTW, for the record there were no other vehicles in sight when I did this, so at least I was only risking my own safety."

Famous last words. Most people that die speeding or die killing someone else sure didnt do it knowing they would.

Anything over 100mph is feloney speeding. Arrestable, big finable, impoundable, and lost license-able.

Why are you doing 100 in a 35? That's pretty much stupid:eek: (unless it's Independance Pass!!!:D)

Now, having done 130 on I-25 between Denver and Colorado Springs in the "safe zones" (stupid as well) I can't really say much!! It's an addiction that needs to be fed occasionally. I think the key to the game is to not be an ********* on the roads. If one is darting traffic, tail-gating etc. then one deserves the "good citizen" call to the PD. If your clear and opening it up... Look around for choppers, learn patrol patterns and go for it.

Pueblo, BTW is a really fun track that can be rented for REALLY cheap anytime you want to get crazy.

PPIR is a total blast too...

Randy Webb 04-08-2004 01:23 PM

YOu will need to look this up in the motor vehicle code (at the local courthouse).

realize that a cop need not write you up for everything he can

and... confiscation could be done at the scene or only after a court order -- you need to check all this stuff out and not rely on a posted opinion.

So what's the latest deal in Montana?
Can you still go fast there on open highways?

Now I'm getting the track bug. oh, noooooo.......told myself I wouldn't track it due to no insurance coverage, hard on the car, etc. After my little "initiation", I can feel the track beckoning.

Regarding Pueblo, can I just drive down on a whim, pay the fee, and off I go? Or is getting track time a little more involved? I know I need a helmet but other than that I'm clueless as I've never done anything like that before.

And PPIR? I'm surprised they would let people drive their street cars on it outside of an organized event. I'm jones'in for a banked oval.

AFAIK, Montana still has no posted speed limits.

Call the Peublo Raceway for details on the useage of the track. For individuals it's a call, setup a time and go. If you have an "event" there is more involved. Keep in mind, your TOTALLY on your own on the track. Some friends of mine have done it in the past, but it has been a couple of years. Cost was like 75.00 a day.

PPIR is an event only deal that is run by the Alpine and Rocky Mountain Regional PCA. Very cool... and very reasonably priced for a track event.

I believe Montana has speed numrical speed limits now; instead of "safe and prudent" or whatever it was before. I guess they got tired of idiots traveling there just to go fast and have a wreck. Residents before the "55 time" would usually drive 70 to 80 mph max in the daytime depending on conditions. The bigger risks were hitting an animal or boredom plus the fact that in places like central Montana if you had a wreck it might be an hour before another vehicle came along. Jim

funny, I know a guy that was going home from work late one night. he decided to let his boxter S run free. he was up to 164 when he saw the cop. he figured no way in hell can that guy catch me at this speed, so he just kept at it!

but then came the roadblock ahead and he didn't even see the spike strip. I think he did go to jail for that one.

he sold the porsche and said it was the most frustrating car he'd ever driven because it was impossible to drive at speed limit. he now drives a taurus and still gets flustered when he talks about that night. he says the cop must be an idiot to be out taking radar at 4 in the morning. he's got a PHD in physics so of course it must be the fault of the car and the cop :-)

mudman 04-08-2004 03:10 PM

Two worst tickets for me: In KY, 117mph on I75, speed limit is 65 or 70. I pulled over and stopped even before the cop had gotten out of the median. No jail though!

In MI, 87 in a 50 (country road). Cop was not in a good mood, had to go to court to convince the judge I am a good kid, cop never showed up, ticket and charges thrown out!
