997 caught in traffic jam

http://www.hadel.net/autos/html/d_pkw_porsche_997_erlkonig.html

You get a good glance from several directions. Nice Hyundai door handles.

At least the rear end got some shape now.

Thanks! Nice link. Finally they are seeing the light and getting back to 911 headlights. The Boxster shared units were just wrong!

IMHO, the look of the lights are going in the right direction However, the hood is just plain boring. Needs some nice lines like the orginall 911's have.

Good pics. And what if we unmaked some of that camouflage, brought out the wheels and added some color?

going in the right direction but I want to see the hood vent come back, more prominent front fenders and the rear reflector go all the way across the back. Most people use these cars as toys so why take some of the trademarks away in the name aerodynamics.

Glad to see the exhaust is really four as opposed to what I saw yesterday. I noticed the stock turbo exhaust was actually just two tail pipes that where made to look like 4

This is getting much better. I agree that it needs something to imply the classic hood vent and the full width tail reflector.

Something just does not seem right with the curvature of the hood. It seems to have some sort of high arch thing going on. If it were a bit more flat maybe the fenders would become more prononced too? It has a way to go to be as crazysexycool as a 930, but it is looking pretty promising.

That looks very nice to me. I warmed up a lot to the 996 when the GT3 came out. The 997 looks even better. It is a turn in the right direction for sure.

I think the hood looks funny due to the angle of the pictures, color of paint and reflections from the surroundings.

I still think the C4S red bar should be carried over on the 997.

Looks like a good direction to me.

The driver has the enviable position of getting to test out new Porsches while trying to look good for the spy photos.

Good point on the hood. Very bulbous. Looks a little doughy too. THis might be caused by the more severe curvature of the front bumper when seen in plan.

Overall, I think there is too much overhang, both front and rear. The car seems to be growing. And the fenders have morphed a little too low for my tastes as well.

That said, the car has an excellent stance, great rear quarterforms, and a great presence. Getting better.

The hood arch, shape and round lights make it look like a 996 mated with a New Beetle. No bueno.

maybe the hood is a red herring? if I were a sneaky PAG tester -- knowing that you guys were out there -- I'd put on an ugly, fake hood and front bumper

I spotted two black 997's two weeks ago heading west on the SF Bay Bridge with Georgia plates. I followed them off the Fremont exit as it seems they were completing a cross country test.

Very Vaderish with the black wheels.

Check out the foglights just inboard of the headlights underneath the tape, this car's gonna look really good IMHO.

what would 2 black 997's do in San Fransisco??? why the hell would they test in the US , considering the lame speed limits, the fact that they would need to ship it across the atlantic, risk even more exposure than they already have...

sounds a bit silly to me

wouldn't they do that sort of thing in a controlled enviroment, like a big ass chamber where they can turn the heat and the freeze on???

it's not like they would need to test the engine in a desert, they can do this a lot better in a test room, nor would they need to test other stuff like cold starting hot starting, seals, components on the outside...
