915 synchronizers on a 78sc

I mixed up the dog teeth removed from my first and second gears. The 2 sets of dog teeth are identical except one set has asymmetrical teeth and the other has symmetrical teeth. I just received the replacements from our host and I wanted to confirm that I ordered the correct ones and which is which. The bentley manual only talks about the sleeve and out of an abundance of caution I wanted to confirm which goes where. It says that the "asymmetric teeth of the sleeve face" 1st gear which I assume (sorry if this is a dumb question) that the asymmetrical dog teeth get mounted on first gear, ie asymmetric dogteeth mesh with asymmetric side of sleeve and vice versa?

Thanks Jim

The asymmetrical dog tooth hub goes on 1st gear, the slider should have asymmetrical teeth that face the 1st gear

Correct Dog teeth orientation?

Thanks tops911.
Is there a particular orientation of the dogteeth ring to the gears? The gears have parallel grooves cut into their sides (see pic I pulled off another post) and the dog tooth ring has the cut out for the anchor block. Is there any particular positioning of the anchor block cut out in the dog tooth ring in regard to the parallel grooves cut into the sides of the gear? Or can I press the dog teeth on to the gear in any location/orientation? What are those grooves cut in the sides of the gears for any way?

Thanks Jim

ps ignore the arrows, they are from the other post; however it is the cutout nearest the white arrow that I am referring to and its relation ship to those 4 parallel grooves cut in the gear side.

Press away. There shouldn't be any required orientation there.

with a file, lightly de-burr the tops of the mating teeth on the gearset before pressing the new teeth on. that helps prevent distortion of the inner race, which can bind the bearing.
