Had a friend in Lander, WY who swore by one of those things during the season when you can't see the 6' markers along the side of the road.

I had one in my ’63 VW daily, not my 911s. It worked great with proper maintenance (per Bill). I even took the VW skiing at Vail and Aspen a few (blizzard) times.

urban myth, them germans were rocket scientists too! Gas heaters worked, never, ever have I heard of one "blow up". It was an additional build cost, and the engineers kept working on getting hot air off the engine and bringing it to the cabin. Fan shrouds changed thru the years as did the supplemental fans to provide the free hot air.

I have a wabasto in my 911 I have had it working But it doesn't light off verry well I allways have to mess with it but when it works it is Finger burning hot at the defrosters I bought ssi exchangers to install and go back to the engine heat and remove the wabasto
