Wheel size question

If I want to run 225/17/45 and 275/17/40's would the best wheel size be 8.5x11" to maximize the fit? Or what are people running if different from that?

Thanks

On a 930?

If so those are sorta small

9" front and 11" rear are more usual. It also depends on whether you want to retain the oem 930 spacers.

245/45 and 275/45 will fit easily w/ the right o/s

Try here for some info, though it is more Carrera body orinted.

Yes for a 930 turbo,

You must be the wheel expert. So I will get right to the point, I'm looking at getting the modified Fuchs from Lindsey Racing like Jack O. did. I was assuming the O/S would be good. I don't have any spacers up front and the 1" stock spacers in the rear with some cheesy 7.5x9" replicas and I don't know what the O/S is on them but they fit well. I went with a 235/45 on the front and there just a tad big (will just hit inside the tub) so maybe the O/S or diameter could be tweaked for a bigger tire but wasn't sure. What is your opinion? I mainly use it for street but will track it for fun. I would like the wheels to fit with ease and using wheel spacers would be fine if needed for the correct offset.

Thanks

Hey Brent - I am going through this exact same process. My wheels will be mainly street as I have a set of 8.5 x 11 17 inch Kinesis 3 piece wheels for the track. I am running 245/45 up front with no rubbing. The rears are huge - 315/35s and also do not rub but I needed to do a little massaging to get them to fit.

For the street I am thinking 8 x 11s with a 235/40 up front and a yet to be determined rear (285??). I see no reason to go to 9s for the front for street driving - this just increases steering effort and creates even more fitment issues. One thing you should note if Mike Lindsey hasn't already said this to you, is that he does not recommend the 2 piece Fuchs for track cars with over 300 HP.

So I am trying to decide between the 2 and 3 piece styles as it is possible I would run these on the track once in a while. Mirage International has a nice looking 3 piece wheel that is about the same price as the Lindsey Racing 2 piece wheels. Here is a picture of a Mirage 3 piece wheel -

I'm not all that familiar w/ 930 fenders but I think that
at the front +44mm o/s 9s will work or +25-31mm 8s, 235/45 on the smaller rim 245/40 on the larger

at the rear 0 o/s 11s w/o the spacer, 275/40 or 315/35 tires

Bill - the problem with dropping the spacer in the rear is then you have all that extra stud to deal with. I know of people running 9s in front and 12s in the rear, but it is a very tight fit. I have beening running 8 x 11s for a few years now and think it is a really nice setup for the street.

If you want to retain the spacer then the 11s need ~28mm o/s.

ZCAT3, what o/s do you have on your Kinesis wheels?

Bill - I actually do not know. The wheels I have were set up for use with a 993TT. A friend of mine had them and needed to go to larger track tires for caliper clearance issues (yes, he now has giant calipers). He knew I was running stock 996TT wheels without issue (these are 8 x 11 18s) so he thought these might work on my 930. They actually fit about perfect. I have the stock spacer in back, but have a spacer in front as well to adjust for the different offset on the 996TT wheels.

How do you measure offset? If it is helpul to you for your wheel database I can measure what I have and report back to you.

Bill

It would be very helpful, I have very few reports from the widebody crowd. The SC/Carrera was easy, I've been messing w/ them for 30yrs. and got a lot of feedback, still looking for more of course.
