CV boot..for 69 for outer boot only detach at tranny flange end??
Page 155 in my Haynes states that ...15(a)..."If only the outer dust boot requires renewal, it is only necessary to detach the driveshaft at the transmission flange end."
My question is then how does the new "outer" boot install on the far end to the wheel?? I cannot seem to visualize the outer boot installation with the axle still attached at the wheel? What is the method here?

Well, I guess that would be the roadside repair method ... but I sure wouldn't recommend it unless you were 200 miles from home in a NAPA parking lot and it was raining cats and dogs!!! It isn't that hard to take off the other four Allen bolts and do the job right! The 'shortcut' depends entirely on being able to get the inner CV-joint off under the car! After the inner joint is off and you clean off the entire axle with solvent and plenty of rags or paper towels ... slide the new boot on and fasten it to the CV body and axle. The BIG problem is ... you are now going to drive with a contaminated outer CV that hasn't been cleaned or packed with good, fresh moly grease!!!

The method is just as Warren says: You must remove the whole CV joint (remove the circlip and slide it off) Clean and regrease. I assume that you are thinking that you have to slide the boot on from the opposite end, this is not the case.
