Sad News from the HP Junkies Camp

Well I just returned from the NHRA Sport Compact races, first we lose the turbo on Fridays at the dyno, she made 475 rwhp@ 1 bar and 590rwhp @ 1.3 but then the tires start spinning at the dyno.

We installed another turbo thanks to the guys at www.billetdesign.com and our best time was 11.3 @ 135mph, we made it to the finals but my poor driving skills once more kill us out of the hole, we lose to a supra 12.4 to 12.3.

I thank everyone that has help us and specially to Turbo Werks and the guys, they build me a hell of a car also to Sewell 94 (tommy) thanks for you GREAT help as always. Once more Thanks to all of you that had help us in the past .

As you can imagine we are heart broke big time

Damn Juan, I thought you were going to say you blew the engine! While this is a bit of a set back, nothing you can't fix for the next run. And as you are learning most of the time the winner is determined in the first 1/8 second when those lights turn green.

at least it was a turbo supra and not a civic
you learned something i'm sure.......which makes it worthwhile.

sounds like a setback but isn't catastrophic. Is there more that we're not hearing?

i was worried about the engine too. this seems like a small setback to putting the royal smackdown on behalf of stutgart in the unfamiliar realm of drag racing. sounds like you'll be back stronger than ever. next time, no talking to the ladies as the light goes green

Good job Juan - you are about a 1/4 of a mile ahead of us all. And losing to a Supra in a drag is nothing to be sad about. Now can the Supra go around corners?

Your story is not of a loss. It is a story of building a win. Keep going, Juan. I understand your disappointment, but you do not strike me as a quitter. Not at all.

The Supra can corner better then Juans car with the way it is setup. Juan you need alot more track time a Supra with $600 in upgrades beat you.

This was a raceweekend that i will always remeber, I'm still tired from the weekend, i have bags on bags under my eyes. But i can't wait to do it again. We took second place to a car where the class is extremely biased too(supra). in our class, Juan had the highest overall trap speed, second (probably 3rd and 4th) lowest et, and we qualified #1. I don't know how you can knock your driving skills, that was the first time you drove the car in 3 months, and only the 2nd time within the 6 months before that. And thats after the manner of the car is completely changed. We had something to over come everyday. First it was the turbo going, then it was not meeting the safety standards(when we really did, and a tech inspector was wrong), Then we had to add a bunch of weigh to the car, you know a refigerator and stove combo, and the kitchen sink, and keep it full of gas to our car to meet the minumium weight(ya thats where the bias to the supra comes in). The weight was 3200 lbs , Juans car weighed 2935 before the event with him, so after our first tech in we weighed in at 3205(talk about cuttign it close). then the clutch almost took a **** on us, and after all that Juan still place second in a NHRA Sport compact national event, Yes thats a big one(Tv, magizines, the whole bit) I personally think he did a great job, and i can't wait till the next event.

Fantastic Job Juan!! Sounds like you did very well to me. If you came out on top the first time you would have no where left to go but down. Now you still have something to strive for.

Juan, I think you did great. Given everything you had to overcome, you should be proud, encouraged, and pumped up to really show 'em next time. You're my hero!

At 3200lbs, maybe a dual turbo 928 with a Corvette transmission might be the way to go. Are classes in Import Racing based on displacement since you were stuck with the Supras? Or on the other extreme, maybe a swb super light weight with a 2.0 turbo to take on Civics

Take heart. It sounds to me like you did very well considering the steep development curve you're on. Besides you and Bello, I can't think of anyone who's drag racing 911's. We're rooting for you Juan!

Juan,
Getting beat is part of the game, but it still hurts!
In this case the slower car get's there first, but being
in the race will make you faster in the long run.
There are two supra's shooting for me right now,
the same thing could happen to me.
Stay with it, you have a great following here.
