Throttle Lever

Hey guys need some help. I have a 73.5 T w/CIS and to get the car to idle( without dying) i have to leave the throttle 1/4 to 1/2 open or the car will die when the engine Rpm's drop. Is this a CO problem or a idle speed problem. When the lever is up however the car runs fine. Just would like to get it right thanks.

Hunter,

I had a similar problem. Afte a visit to my wrench, he found the car was running way rich. Once adjusted, runs like a dream.

Before you do that, check the rest of the things on the CIS Troubleshooting Chart .

If it dies at idle check the deceleration valve (line runs from bell shape housing behind airbox down toward the distibutor.

You can check the CO as well. Its a crude way, but what I did after my 73.5T would die after a run on the interstate on the off-ramp was to restart, pull over and begin adjusting the mixture til I had a good feel and balance and the idle stayed. The key to adjustment is to remember a left turn (clockwise) to Lean and right to rich. One click at a time. One issue I had that I will pass on is that the previous owner put locktite on the adjustment screw so I had to slowly work that away by removing the air filter and holding the sensor plate with one hand while I slightly forced the adjustment wrench into the screw and adjusted.

Good luck

Bob

Bob,

Forgot about the decelleration valve. Mine was sticking and when my wrench adjusted the mixure, he plugged the vacuum line as well.

Thanks for the reminder.
