R&R of leaky oil lines,how many hours?

I found some small leaks on the two oil lines on both side of the fan shroud (one is underneath the AC / the other is under neath the Distributor)

First - Would I have to remove the distributor?
Second - Would I have to remove the AC?

Third - Do I have to drain the oil, if so how much of it?

the distributor has to come out, unless you get lucky and have the hose fitting loosen without loosening the lower fitting in the process. still kind of tight back there. i would just pull it.
the a/c pump and mounting bracket are in the way of the right one. the muffler is in the way of the mountingf bracket bolts too. yippee! some folks have done it in situ, but their hands must be really small. oil stays in, but the right side will drool from the case until you get the hose reattached. i would charge 2 hours labor.

These are the cam tower oil lines.

Te right side can be done without removing the distributor. Cost of the line about $24.00.

The left side (also about $24.00) can be done by removing the A/C and the sliding bracket in which the A/C unit sits on. Once the sliding portion of the bracket is removed, you will see 3 holes in the bracket still attached to the engine. This hepls position the oil line when installing the new line by using a thin screw driver.
You will need two 17mm wrenches, to extract the line from it's banjo fitting.

Did the job a week ago and it took about 2hours.

I got a full set of wrenches and sockets so I should be OK, just checked with ANDIAL and they got both parts in stock! Woohoo! Cant wait to get oily tomorrow! (5 years ago ur...make that 10 years ago that comment had a completly different meaning)

Boy those guys at ANDIAL sure are nice. Just picked up the oil feed lines and I asked them if they wouldnt mind giving me tips on the job I was getting myself into. They didn't even hesitate to look at my engine to confirm my diagnosis of leaky feed lines along with some tips on removing the distributor and the AC.

It is so obvious why they have a callendar full of work to do month in and month out.

Finished the side with the most leak (2 drops a day) (Driver side)
It wasnt to hard, I figured I could do one side at a time

It was fun to finally do a "repiar" vs just maintenance!

carreras don't have the removeable top a/c mounting plate like SCs do. it's a one piece aluminum mount that requires muffler removal to get to the lower bolts.

John, you may want to revisit the plate thing....

The A/C bracket in the carrera consists of two pieces. One that you are talking about that is the bottom portion and there is a sliding portion that is attached to the bottom portion by 4 bolts.

When loosened, it will slide allowing for tension adjustments on the A/C belt.

I wonder if we're referring to the same cam oil lines...There are 2 on each side. One solid line and one flexible line.

I am assuming that Bigrubber is replacing the Flexible lines.

on an SC, the top of the steel a/c mount can be removed to access the stuff underneath it. on a carrera, yes there's a sliding mount on top of the larger, lower mount, but removing the sliding mount doesn't give you access to the stuff below it, as the large mount has a top that is part of the mount, effectively blocking access to the hoses/lines. you could probably fish the hose in and out with varying amounts of frustration, without removing the large mount, but i find it easier to drop the muffler to get at the two bolts that hold the mount in, so i don't have to do the mr. pretzel thing.

Well I did replace the oil line behind the distributor - That was fun!

I never removed a distributor before. The guys at ANDIAL told me about the TOP DEAD CENTER alingment. So in any case, I will be doing the AC side later on this week (since their is still a small drop of oil in the morning.)
