Front Condensor Fan

Is the front condensor fan hard to replace? Mine is starting to whin a little and I'm sure soon it'll need replacement.

No it comes out quite easily. Unplug the electric connector. Unscrew the sheet metal screws and lift out.

Before you order a new one, pull the existing one out and make sure it's clean. Road debris tends to find its way into the squirrel cage and cause the fan to get off balance (and therefore, noisy). Like Kurt said, it comes out easy.

From above. You do need to move it back a bit as you're pulling it upward. I just removed mine last night for cleaning and a general inspection.

I know, I know.

My daily commute is only 2 miles, so I don't use the Carrera for work. I also have 3 other cars and two bikes, so I don't get to drive each one much.

As I plan on taking a long trip in the near future, I should crack that 18K barrier by July! ;-)

You should unplug that motor now, before it seizes and causes an electrical fire. This is not an uncommon event.

There is a factory inline fuse available kit available from Pelican which should help prevent an electrical fire in the event of a motor seizure.

Oh, and if you have to replace the motor buy it under the Bosch part number and save $200..that is about $90 vs. $300 for the Porsche part number. Also, getting the squirrel cage off is a complete PITA. Before you even attempt it, remove the set screw and submerge the shaft in liquid wrench for a couple of days, heat the thing with a propane torch and submerge it again for a day or so. Even then, I ruined one cage in the process. Next time, I'll probably figure out a way to press the shaft out...the cage itself is pretty gracile and won't take much abuse. Finally, drill a small hole in the housing to access the shaft. That way a shot of WD-40 or liquid wrench can be applied on a regualr basis keeping the shaft rust free and helping it last a good, long time. Seal the hole with small rubber plug...

What's the part number for the Bosch front condensor fan? I had a "Behr" part number on my burned up (literally) fan. Anyone know where the best place to get one is? Pep Boys or a German car dealer. I googled the part number on the side of the fan and didn't get anything. I was thinking of using a couple of stacked 4" 12 volt computer fans with some duct work, any thougths.

Note that a lot of folks throw their A/C out and can sell you a good fan with housing for little money. Just put a want ad in the classified section. I sold my fan there to someone that had a WTB post.

Not to knock the house, but $22.76 for an inline fuse holder and fuse!!!!!

I'll try posting a WTB. Got one last year used and I put it on the bench and let it run for an hour and it literally caught on fire. A very good condition used is OK, but I'd consider a new one if the price is not userous.

Easy job...you may want to loosen the battery to make sure that you get the fan snug into the opening.

Do they glue or apply an adhesive or some type of gasket to the fan's plastic housing to seal it to the trunk floor. I remember mine being all cracked around edges, like someone tried to pry it out (maybe they forgot to take the screws out first).

No adhesive... but there is a small gasket sealing it to the trunk floor.

As mentioned about loosening the battery, it helps when trying to maneuver the intake of the housing into it the opening in the valence.

The reason for cracks is that some folks over tighten the assembly.
