ftl vin # help

i am looking at what is supposed to be a 1986 factoryy turbo look car and saw somewhere where you can tell if it was by the vin number? i know about the 491 option code
can somebody check it please

I don't think you can tell if it's a Turbo Look just from the VIN.
No need to abbrieviate Factory Turbo Look to "ftl", the letters are free and no one has any idea what "ftl" means.

thanks but i remember seeing a website listing the vins and seeing what vin went with what car

What I meant is that the 491 option isn't encoded in the VIN like it is for a Targa or Turbo. A dealer can look it up I believe. Have you tried a search of this BBS for "491" yet? Here's a link to one thread on Turbo Looks that I found by doing a search for "491".

No such website, AFAIK. The Turbo-look Registry was just started in Mar. of 2004. Go to this site to find out more.

Chris is right about the VIN- you can't tell what options the car has from the VIN- the M491 option started in 1974 and went thru 1989, I believe. Getting the Kardex will tell the story, or the original window sticker will show the options, or sometimes the options sticker will still be under the hood.
