Are my Fuch's damaged?

Hello All!!
It's been a while since I have been at the site!!
Great to see the regulars are all still here!!
I had new rubber put on my 85 ,911 fitted with fuch 7 & 8's by The P dealer yesterday.
Today I noticed that the 3" ring around the outside of the rim that used to shine very nicely is now a milky opaque color with a hazy effect. I wiped one with soap and water and it's still milky.
I told them to clean the adheasive from the old wheel weights off
of the outside of the rims. Are my rims damaged by chemicals??
I called them and they claim only lube was used to get tires on.
Please help!
thanks
Mully

I just used Flitz ( http://www.flitz.com/ ) on terry rags. A lot of guys have their favorite polish, but I've been using Flitz for 15 years on aircraft leading edges (corporate jets), and besides a nice shine, it holds up very well. (To replace the leading edges on our Falcon F-50 is $384,000 including labor, ask me how I know, %#&* pilot). If you go the Flitz route, buy the 2 pound can, it will last forever and you can share with friends. The 2 pounder is about $50.00 per can, so $25.00 a pound which is a lot cheaper way to go, then the smaller tubes that comes out to about $120 per pound. An internet search will find aircraft distributors that sell it in the 2 pounds cans, most auto places only carry the tubes.
Another use I found for Flitz is when I got my '87 the paint was very dull (Grand Prix White), a long long time since it had seen a wax job. I went over the whole car with Flitz (by hand) and then 2 coats of Zymol wax, and it is 'as new', the Flitz really polished up the existing paint. I'd try a test spot before attempting with any color other then white.

The Flitz will most likely dull the hard anodized finish on Mully's wheels if they are indeed still anodized and not polished like Mark's wheels.

Take Mike's advice and hit the wheels with vaseline/petroleum jelly. Buy the grocery store generic brand since they're all the same!

Sound weird to recommend vaseline but it works and lasts a decent amount of time. It's even mentioned in the factory Porsche service manuals to treat the wheels with petroleum jelly. I kid you not.

coating??

I think the polished outer ring has some sort of coating that is damaged and cloudy. What can I do about it ?/Will the Flitz do anything. What does vasaline do?? You just wipe it on??
Thanks
Mully

smear it on, let it sit for a couple hours, and remove it all so the rim doesn't have an oily surface to collect dirt. amazing, but true. don't use any compounds on anodized rims.

Kevin is 100% correct.
If you still have your anodized coating, don't use Flitz or any other polish. The anodized coating will look slightly yellow/cloudy compared to 'polished' rims. The polish will removed the anodized coating, so you will have shinier rims (some don't like that look), but they will require upkeep (polishing) after you polish them the first time. If anodized, the petroleum jelly tip is the ticket.
